Milk thistle isn't a homeopathic. Do a little research before you decide where you're going to throw your money away.

I use MT (milk thistle) and feel very good with that, The best is UltraThistle from MaximunMilkThistle (my personal opinion after I have tried some).

About Homeopatic - I have tried something 2 years ago, it was terrible, I felt the same as I am under Interferon, I stopped it after few days since it was really very difficult, it was a very bad experience for me.

If you go to the "Life Extension" website,,(I think its life extension dot org) you will find info as far as vitamins etc to take for hep c. There are many sites that provide info and of course sell their product for liver health/hep c alternative etc. If that is the route you have chosen rather than drug tx for hep c, you can always jot down the supplements/herbs these sites have and buy the products from whatever manufacturers you want - not just one place. Keep in mind that at this present time Interferon and Riba are the only method that seems to help a person go into remission or get their 'cure,' depending how you look at it.

If you are planning the 'alternative route," you may find it interesting to google things about the immune system. There are lots of things that do effect our TH1 and Th2 which is out of wack with those of us who have hepc, but when taking even the 'natural route' with herbs etc, you have to be careful that you are not sitmulating your system that it will cause the virus to replicate even more. It is something that conventional doctors aren't up on (herbs, vitamins) and none of us are either, so we all must be careful even when taking things that are 'natural.' But of course 'antioxidants, and milk thistle and things such as these IMO are safe but if on TX it would be best to run these things by your doc cause you don't want anything to interfere with the meds. Right now for myself (relapser) in between what decision I will make again as far as hep c, I just starting with "reishi mushrooms" supplements. Supposed to help bring back balance to TH1 and TH2. I am not advocating anyone take this, taking this in MY personal decision. It may help balance my immune system or who knows maybe the virus will replicate EVEN MORE and start ooooozing out of my ears., but it makes me feel like I am at least trying to get well in between the wait of 'waiting for what."

Wish you the best in whatever you decide.

You can go to curezone dot com and put in hepatitis C and hear what others who do not want conventional tx are doing.

Don't waste your money on 'alternative' treatments for hep c.

For alternative treatments, the most highly recommended author/website seems to be Mischa Cohen - and some say Dr. Zhang, although he's controversial.  Or if you know of a local practitioner of Traditional Chinese Medicine, they can often help prevent progression of damage from hcv.  But none of these methods cures the disease.  If your biopsy says you're stage 3 or higher, medical treatment is the only thing that works.  And don't touch colloidal silver!

"local practitioner of Traditional Chinese Medicine, they can often help prevent progression of damage from hcv"

There is no such herb that will prevent the progression of HCV damage. If there was we'd all be taking it. Secondly, other than drinking, I cannot think of a more reckless thing to do than to take Chinese herbs. Countless samples of TCM have been tested and repeatedly they find that they contain mercury, arsenic, lead, western medicines, and other unreported ingredients. One study of 150 randomly selected imported Chinese herbs found 30%  to be contaminated. And it doesn't matter if you know or 'trust' your practioner. It is out of their hands unless they have an entire lab capable of detecting all of the ingredients for purity. And even then there are herbs that if given in inappropriate strengths can do alot of harm.  And this a TCM practioner cannot know either because they have no way of knowing what has been substituted in place of the stated ingredients. It comes from China for God's sakes. Suppliers can change their sources and there would be no way of knowing that since they are unregulated in both the US and China. The Chinese often replace the stated ingredients with cheaper ones that may have a totally different potency profile. In short, it does not matter how well you know your parctitioner, you play Russian Roulette when you take imported Chinese herbs. This is not safe advice to give to anyone let alone someone with an impaired liver function.

thank you for saying that best.

will all please bear in mind that the same flower that can save your heart can also kill you, (digitalis) and this in amounts so small you can barely see them....

and the same silly mushroom some take to get high can also take out a liver in days not years...

a little knowledge.....as the old saying goes.......is a dangerous thing

now i know what homeopathic means. that is not what i'm looking for. my fibrosis level is 1 so, for now, i'm in good shape. my viral load, however, is very high (19 million) - i was just looking for vitamins and supplements that could be beneficial. it seams that milk thistle (silymarin) may be beneficial and not harmful.  antioxidents (whatever they are) sound like something i'd like to learn more about.

my liver md said (about a year ago) that i would not need another biopsy for 5 years but to monitor the liver function which has remained ok. he felt that by that time there was a real chance that something better than interferon and ribavirin would be available. that would be nice. i want to do the medical treatment that actually "cures" this eventually but don't relish the side effects for now.
