hep c transmission

My partner and I are both women...what are the chances I will pass this on to her? There is alot of info out there about man/women, man/man but nothing to help us women. I am in a long term monogamus relationship and we are very careful not to have sex anytime during or even within a week of our menstral cycles. I am stage 4 liver cirhosis and currently in my 9th week of treating with Interferon/Ribivarin. I have avoided sex for the entire time because I am scared I will infect her and be the cause of her having to go through what I am going through. We are looking for lesbian support groups if anyone knows of one either online or in portland oregon.

Thanks,
dk

before treatment, very rapid weight gain, muscle pain, liver or upper right quadrant pain and extreeme fatigue were my main symptoms. turns out my expanding belly was more fluid than fat and have already lost about 30#. I also have significantly less liver pain (unless I eat bad things like ice cream!). I only thought I was having extreeme fatigue untill I started treatment and found a new meaning for extreeme! I am hopeful treatment will work but I am Type 1b so practical that is may not. Even if treatment fails I hope to gain some time with the cirrohsis and will also try the new drugs when they are launched.

I have know of my disease for 20+ yrs so never share personal care items though a house guest several years ago used my razor and told me about it. I had to tell her my condition and urge her to get tested. I don't think she ever did...

I imagine your risk of sexual transmission is low to the point of non-existent. Most documented sexual transmission appears to involve trauma/blood, as in rape or very rough sex.

I’d be careful to avoid sharing personal care items such as toothbrushes, clippers, things like that. I’m not sure if there are even any medically documented cases of household transmission that involve personal care times, but it’s intuitively possible.

How are you doing with the cirrhosis, by the way; are you experiencing any complications? Good luck with your treatment outcome, and welcome to the discussion group—
