I started a journal to try to help people read about my experience with the Solvdi and Rabavirin . I just want to let people know what I have been doing on these drug.
Thank you
susan
I am going to go in once week to have m red cell count done if it is good for a month then I will have it done once every two week then if all is good once a month. Have all that scheduled I seem to be doing real well on these drugs just hope I can breeze through this. Thank you for your support also. We all need support
Hi Susan. I'm also Geno 2 and treated with the same regimen as you. The one thing that you need to watch is your Hemoglobin as the Ribavirin can cause a decrease in your energy level. Not everyone experiences a drop in your blood levels but make sure your Dr has mentioned this while on treatment.
Good Luck and just to let you know time does seem to go by quickly. Before you know it you will be cured and on to a new life!
Best
.....Kim
This is day 4 on my treatment. I feel a little buzzy but other than that doing good
I have started my treatment. This is Day 2. I don't feel any different yet. I know I am early in treatment . So I will post in a couple days again and see how I am feel.
Good luck in your treatment. Remember to drink plenty of water - helps the body to get rid of the toxins and helps reduce headaches as a side effect - and to eat a liver friendly diet. That helps reduce the strain on the liver and while it is processing the powerful meds any help to the liver is a good thing.
Don't panic if you feel very fatigued, a side effect of the meds, but particularly the Riba. This, too, shall pass. And, you may not have a problem with it, some people don't.
The 12 weeks will pass very quickly!
Good treating, and on to SVR!
Bessings,
Pat
I received my results back from my elastography and I do not have any cirrhosis. I will start my treatment really soon it is in the mail as I speak. I will have to only do this for 12 weeks . I feel so lucky. I will keep everyone up to date on how I am feeling doing the Sovaldi and Ribavirin. I have learned a lot of this site. Take Care and will post soon Thank you
Listen to Hector! Not all of these doctors are as up to date on new tx regimens as they should be. All the info, data and real world experience is on this site. You may have to take an active role in determining your tx plan. I did.
Thank you Hector,my GI doctor is not starting me on any treatment until she dose the scan which I was going to see her May 6 but not the date has change going to contact them Monday. If I do have cirrhosis I will be treated for 16 weeks. I am just hoping that I only have to be on it 12 weeks but will see later this month when I see her
I am afraid your doctor is not planning on properly treating your hepatitis C if you have cirrhosis (stage 4 liver disease).
You and your doctor should find out if you have cirrhosis BEFORE starting treatment as the treatment for those with and without cirrhosis are different.
The recommended length of treatment for those who have genotype 2 and cirrhosis should be extended from 12 to 16 weeks of treatment for the best chance of cure (SVR).
Your doctor should be aware of the hepatitis C recommended treatment guidelines for hepatitis C and treating you according to the treatment guidelines so you have the best chance to be cured. If your doctor will not treat you according to the recommended guidelines I would recommend finding a doctor who is knowledgeable and experienced in proper treatment as you are risking failing treatment with inadequate treatment. As this treatment (Sovaldi + Ribavirin) is the only currently approved treatment for genotype 2 it would not be a good idea to fail treatment because it wasn’t prescribed for the proper length.
Here are the recommendation from the American Association for the Study of Livers Diseases (AASLD) and the Infectious Disease Society of America (IDSA).
http://hcvguidelines.org/full-report/initial-treatment-hcv-infection
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Recommended regimen for treatment-naive patients with HCV genotype 2 infection.
Daily sofosbuvir (400 mg) and weight-based RBV (1000 mg [75 kg]) for 12 weeks is recommended for treatment-naive patients with HCV genotype 2 infection.
Extending treatment to 16 weeks is recommended in patients with cirrhosis.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
…” Based on real-world data from Trio Health, lower response rates were seen in treatment-naive patients with cirrhosis than in those without cirrhosis. (Dieterich, 2014a) Although data to support extension of therapy are not yet available for treatment-naive patients with HCV genotype 2 infection, longer treatment duration improves SVR in treatment-experienced patients with cirrhosis. (Jacobson, 2013c) Owing to the small numbers of patients with HCV genotype 2 infection and cirrhosis enrolled in the registration trials, several phase IIIB studies are ongoing to specifically determine the appropriate length of treatment for this subgroup of patients (NCT01962441, NCT 02128542).
Until these data are available, extending treatment from 12 weeks to 16 weeks in HCV genotype 2–infected patients with cirrhosis is recommended.”
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
NCT01962441 and NCT 02128542 studies are still ongoing so if you have cirrhosis you should treat for 16 weeks with Sovaldi and Ribavirin to have the best chance of cure.
The data from the FUSION trial showed the following.
*Genotype 2 treatment experienced cirrhotics with 12 weeks of treatment SVR was only 60% compared with 96% with HCV genotype 2 infection without cirrhosis.
* Among patients with cirrhosis who received 16 weeks of treatment, the rate of response was 78% with HCV genotype 2 infection.
I would show your doctor the recommend guidelines and ask her/him why they are not planning to treat you for the required duration for the best chance of cure.
Best to you.
Hector

Wise woman!
Hey there, I am sorry that you have it, it sounds like you have a good doctor if he has been able to get your tx so quickly.
Congratulations!
Take Care, Dee

Hello Susan .
yes please go ahead with the elastography which is also i think known as a fibroscan .
It is a non invasive procedure and will tell you the amount of fibrosis you have .
Gilead treatment for geno 2 is Sofosbuvir / sovaldi and weight based ribavirin with a high success rate .
I wish you well and hope that you cure soon .
god bless and warm regards .
