Ask for your MELD test and labs to find your genotype and your liver function. You need a Gastroenteroligist or a Hepatologist to help you. That's the first step to take.  Ask your doctor to give you a referral. Then get your labs done.

Hi nilda,

Welcome to the forum, it's a great place to land if you have hep C.

As Lynn said, there are many Tx's that are successful to cure right now. I'm sure your liver specialist will do necessary tests & find out which Tx ( treatment) will work best for you.

I just wanted to also say, by listening to what you wrote, that most people don't know they' have hep c for many years. I had a transfusion in 1976 & didn't find out till 1999 & still waited till now to treat. So please, don't fret about that. Hep c can take decades to find out about.

Keep us posted about how you do with new doctor & your Tx plan. And anything else.

Blessings to you,
Randy

Hi

Yes there are new treatments approved in the last year and one just a few weeks age, that are very effective, most people have few side effects, and very short duration depending on the health of your liver and what genotype you have.

Most people in the US have genotype 1a or 1b but there are many other genotypes so that will determine what treatment will work best for you.

But yes hepatitis c can be cured for most now that could not have been said as recently as 14 months ago.

Welcome to the forum and good luck
