hepatitis transmission through pinprick
I am new to this forum and and hope I can get some help.
I had an incident where I was trying to prick a friend finger to run a HIV  home test. As soon as she felt the pain from the pin, she withdrew her hand sharply and my hand slipped and the pin pricked one of my  my finger. I immediately squeezed out  some blood from the spot and washed the place. I am not sure if the first unsuccessful prick made it to her blood.  Then I re-pricked her finger and carried out the test, unexpectedly she was HIV  positive.  I went to the DR and got HIV PEP ( though he did not recommend it) which I have now completed and tested at 5 weeks, negative.

My concern now is on Heptatis A B and C.  Am I at risk of these and do I need to test for them (especially Hep C) particularly for this incident. .

Your professional advice please,  very anxious.

Welcome to the forum and go get tested for Hepatitis C.  Hepatitis C is transmitted from blood to blood.  If your friend was positive HIV there is a better than average chance their co-infected with Hepatitis C.

Thanks so much for the advice and I will be tested. My how much risk was my exposure, very high or low? Can Hep C be transmitted this way. On HIV forum, I was told it was no risk as the tests is showing.

What makes this a higher risk is that you were stuck with a needle that had been stuck in someone with HIV.   This would make your chance of exposure to hepatitis C higher.  I can't tell you what the odds are but if it was me....
I would take this seriously and get tested for Hepatitis C.

People with HIV have a higher occurrence of Hepatitis C in general.  Put your
mind at ease and get tested for Hep C.   Next time let someone do their own testing so you don't get stuck in the process.  Sticking themselves won't hurt
anyone.

Best to you
