If there's any chance of blood contamination from cuts or abrasions, even non-obvious ones, washing is not effective. It's my understanding that A) the HCV virus can live for quite some time outside the body (I've heard up to four days), and B) heat sterilization, or autoclaving, is the only fully effective way of killing the virus.

I've read that heat sterilization is the only thing that kills the virus too. If that's a fact, and the virus can live for 4 days and possibly longer, that is pretty scary. How safe can clinical settings be if disinfectants don't kill it? I haven't been able to verify if that is true or not.

Are we talking "persistent" or "occult" toys?*

*Note:  The geniuses had their threads and now the regular folks will get back to the more important discussions!  DonMac, you need to keep the old robomacaroni clean between uses with liberal anti viral and antibacterial sprays.

A read a hell of a lot about transmission, and recall seeing something about "toys" being pretty much OK if they're washed with soap and hot water. Hep C doesn't like the soap apparently.
Revenire, that move was Hellraiser, based on the Clive Barker short story "The Hellbound Heart". A good book and good movie, but they lost the atmosphere by the second sequel...

Let's hope it doesnt take the govt. as long to decide to test routinely for HCV as it took them to decide to routine test for HIV! It took them 20+ years to implicate routine testing for HIV. Talk about foot dragging! Seems obvious that routine is testing is in order NOW seeing as how HCV is the largest blood borne illness facing the US today.
I have been asked by a local reporter to help do an article on this very subject, if you have any studies or info. regarding transmission woould you mind posting them? I have some but am looking for as much info. as possible to share with him.

The focus of the article is on possible modes of transmission aside from drug use and awareness and encouraging people to be tested.

I agree with you, I feel there are many "common" places to pick it up unknowingly that the public is completely unaware of. True, the number one way to catch this is IV drug use, but it is not the ONLY way.
Hope you are feeling pretty good, take care.

says; a military-style national and international mobilization-  doesn't sound like the liberal I know! LOL I remember LaRouche and the controversy, especially here in SF. My x died of AIDS before tx was available. What a debacle! I think if we had done something then instead of saying that only one population of people gets HIV, then we wouldn't have what's going on with HVC going on now. Everyone would be tested and there would be more outcry for better tx. CA does seem to lead the way, I am REALLY sorry prop. 187 didn't pass, I was sure people would be more aware...

That is great that you get to spread some truths about transmission. That can only help the awareness in the population. So few people know about this virus. When is article coming out? If I find some stuff, I will send it your way!

How are you doing? Good I hope ;)

LOL it was 87 not that awful 187! The one that would encourage alternative energy to reduce oil consumption and get us not to be so dependent on foreign oil. Sure seems it would have been a good start on solving some BIG problems here.

Yeah, it is pretty scary. That's what really irks me about the short list of ways of transmission. Thruthfully, I think the list is much longer and includes plenty of "everday" connections...dental offices, outpatient labs, nail salons, barber shops, etc. And with more of us infected everyday, it'll get worse.I think education and testing are the key.I read recently that the CDC is recommending that all Americans be routinely tested for HIV. That'll happen too for HCV.

So what are you saying? You rent 7 toys for 7 days and then return them? Wow, remind me not to rent any toys! LOL

I get one of each, I don't have the energy to do it myself.

There's an answer to our energy problems. We can all send in our unused Riba and use to fuel our stoves. Probably send out a lot of toxic fumes though...

Geez, I know the energy problem. I'm just impressed you have enough energy to play with toys. I can't even get undressed anymore, half the time, I have so little energy. And libido? Don't get me started. It doesn't exist!

I'm doing pretty good. Really good, in fact. Tonight is my Friday fight song...#24 of 48. I'm 1a, newly infected, and I was UND at week 4 and 12. Sides have been minimal and I consider myself really blessed for that. Tuesday is my UW Hospital IDEAL study appointment for week 24. I'll spend some time this weekend seeing what links I can track down for you. I've got some interesting ones. Be on the lookout!
