high liver enzymes and symptoms

My 41 year old husband has had 4 attacks of sudden fatique, severe chills, and no energy whats so ever. These attacks usually last 5-10 days and happen about every 3-4 months.Coincindently, each time it happens, he consumed alcohol {only like 3-4 drinks}.
When he was younger,he drank alot and used cocaine for about 3 years{never used a needle}.
The first attack he had he was taken to a hospital and was told his liver enzymes were high.Mono, hepatitis a,b,and c were ruled out by a blood specialist. He absolutely refuses to do a liver biopsy.
My questions are as followed:
Is there medication he can take to prevent these attacks?
Will these attacks ever go away?
   Is this contagiuos?{I have 3 children}
Should he not eat certain foods?
Can smoking cigarettes be a concern?
What percautions can I take to prevent these attacks?
I'm really concerned for my family's future and would appreciate any advice you can give us.

Hopefully someone will come along to give you some information or a website where you could do some research.  On the unfortunate side, most of here are dealing with HCV and that is what has raised our LFT's.  If HCV has been ruled out on your husband, there must be something else in the works.

Good luck in your information gathering search and finding the answers you need.

"COINCIDENTLY" consumed alcohol??  "ONLY" 3-4 drinks??  duh.  Your husband is reacting badly to drinking too much.  3 or 4 drinks in one day, any one day, are 2 or 3 too many for anyone who wants to stay healthy.  Your husband may have a liver disease which hasn't been diagnosed yet, and which would cause him to be alcohol intolerant.  He probably needs: #1 a better/ more complete medical work-up, and #2 to stop drinking until he knows what's going on.

I am a 32 mother of 2. Last summer I got really sick and had to have my gaulbladder, right ovary and right tube removed. I also have Cronic (chronic) ITP. I had my spleen and Apendix removed years back due to my ITP. I went into my doctor last week, complaining of fatigue and adomnial pains. He did a rountine CBC and my platelts came back 73,000. That is pretty low. He also said my ALT & AST was high and asked me to take a HEP C test. I am waiting on results. This si killing me. I did the test on Wed. and now it is Monday. I drank a few beers the night before I took the blood test. Can this effect my results?????????

I really do not have an answer for you, but, wanted to let you know that if you re-post your question at the top of the page to the new and currant date, you will get tons of answers...We generally do not scroll so far down to read old posts.....(once in a great while...one of us will out of boredom (?) :>)....just post under another thread....you may want to write "new question" in the "to:" section.  We get 6 questions a day on this site, so many people "break" into an already establised thread this way......so if you ever want to "open" a thread with a question and you cannot get in...you can do it this way....good luck, and I will be looking for your question at the top of the page.....

lolol...bored huh?
remember way back when I found out how these people found us?
softball here will probably never read your answer because this thread started in January and MH told this person that the thread is closed. Except, it shows a day later as open again...a little MH bug. Remember my little experiment that created a little conflict back then?   hope no one reads this and gets paranoid again....I feel bad for these folks that posted though.
They will never know that it did go through.
if you are bored,
you could go visit lou and bug him...post something about the red sox, that will get him.
