how do you react to being in tghe sun or tanning while on soc?

i have heard from some people on treatment that while in the hot sun they have had some bad reactions. i have also heard from people that are on treatment that this isn't true because they've had no effects. i was looking up side effects online and i saw nothing mentioned about being in the sun, or tanning for that matter, some medications say to not be in the sun at all while on them, but i didn't see that about the soc, i know its not good for you to be tanning, but i wanted to ask about it as well.  i've heard about bad things happening while outside in the hot sun of a summer day from people using the tx.  so has anyone had any bad reactions/side-effects from tannin or being in the sun for any amount of time, in any high degree of heat while on soc?

riba affects the skin and so the sun may make it worse and you may burn more easily.. obviously not everyone is affected

I lay in the sun while on soc in order to get enough vitamin D, but I limit it to 20-30 minutes every 3 or 4 days without sunscreen.

I live in FLorida and during the 55 weeks I treated, I was NOT able to even walk in the sun for over 5 minutes..bad skin reaction...and feeeling exceptionally faint . Even just looking at the sun made me weary.

Everyone is different with the sx.......Good Luck with it all.

As charm said, everybody is different.  The sun totally messed me up on treatment and to this day, as a result of having done the 10 times of TX, I developed a skin disorder that makes it to wear I still cannot tolerate being in the sun w/o being totally covered up.  But, other people don't have that problem at all.  I've also had basil cell skin cancers in my life before I ever knew about the Hep C, because of growing up in the Florida and living in Puerto Rico as a child and since I'm fair skinned, I burned many times.  So, by 30, I had skin cancer.  Not everybody has the same problem.  If you break out in itchy bumps from the sun on treatment, it is not hard to see that you will not tolerate the sun on treatment.  Susan400

I had no sun reaction at all on SOC but at the very end of TX I suddenly became allergic to antihitamines and had a sun allergy related to the antihistamines.  Interferon does some unusual stuff and it can be hard to figure out what side effect is related to what.

I didn’t seem to be photosensitive, but certainly intolerant to heat; summer days kicked my butt…

They advise you use sunscreen on tx as the riba, like many drugs, can cause enhanced photosensitivity.

My nurse told me to stay out of the sun because she had seen others with bad reactions to the sun.  I avoided it in the hot summer, but now it makes me feel better.
I am olive skinned, but still burn.
I would say better just be careful and wear sunscreen anyway.  Your skin is really dry during treatment, baby it.
