how long for hep panel results?
my liver enzymes came back elevated on a routine exam.  ast 199, alt 374, alk phos 198.  I am a health care worker and have had a couple of exposures in the past, and i'm scared that I could have aquired hep c, {am vaccinated for hep b}.  My GP ordered a series of labs including hepatitis panel and i was just wondering how long it usually takes for the results to come back.  Labs were taken approx 5 days ago.  also does it take longer to get the results if they are positive?

It should take longest 1 week to get the result. If you test positive for HCV antibodies, it does not necessarily mean you have hep c.

Further tests called a PCR and genotyping are used to determine if you actually have hep c. This test usually takes between 4 days to longer, depending on the lab.
