hydroxyzine during tx

I have an Rx for hydroxyzine to use during tx, specifically for itching, but also to help with nausea, pain and anxiety to a lesser degree.

Anyone have any experience with this med - pro or con?

Thanks, Pam

Hepatologists prescribe it often. Be aware that it may cause drowsiness.

Thanks for the feedback. I suppose alot is learned through trial and error.

I'm trying to get a few things on hand that I might need before the end of the year since my deductible is met and they are covered 100 %.

Dr. says the Riba rash is worse with double dosing, so I may look at a good sleeper as well.

Thanks again!

I used hydroxine (and about 80,000 other meds) while I was on treatment.  I found it to be helpful for itching but only marginally helpful with the nausea.  For nausea, I found that both phenergan suppositories and pills and the sublingual 8mg zofran were more helpful.

I'll say one thing for hydroxine though.  In doses of 50mg and above, it does have quite a calming effect (it is also used as a tranquilizer I believe, or has been in the past - phenergan has also been used in the past for its antihistamine and tranq qualities as well as for its ability to help with nausea).
