i have itchy red bumps

Hi my name is Tracy. And I found out that I had hep c about 6yrs ago.they never gave me any meds yet but for the past 3 weeks I have been getting red bumps that look like bites all over my body and they itch like crazy. And I think from all the itching the thighs and arms are swelling . Does anyone else have this problem or is there a bed bug in my bed.LOL

Hi, I have been on treatment for 5 mon. for hep c this is my last mon. thank god, but I have the itchy red scaly bumps. they can be located in different areas on the body , like legs, scalp, arms shoulders, sides of the ribs, but mostly lower legs and the itchiness can be intent. Best advice calamine lotion and cortisone 10
Doctors want give you anything for it like steroids because this would hurt the liver more, I know I ask the ??? ????
What I am hoping, is that it goes away after the treament!!!!!!

Sounds like you are headed in the right direction.   Getting an ultrasound and an appointment with a GI are the first steps.  Was the referral for the hep C or does your primary doctor have some other concerns.

The GI will order more tests if they have not yet been done.  You will need a genotype test and a viral load test (a PCR) .  It would be advisable then to get a liver biopsy and see what the damage to your liver actually is.  Then you will have the information to make an informed decision.''

I agree with Hector that the rash is probably from something else, but what did your doctor think they were from? Sounds like you just went to see him (because he ordered the ultrasound and sent you to a GI).

I never had a rash/ichy/bumps from hep C but have them now that I'm on treatment....if you're not on treatment, it has to be something else....
I'm on 3 medicines (incivek 3 times a day with high fat diet, ribavirin twice daily & a shot once a week).  All going well so far!  good luck on your testing...ask for a biopsy.  Others on this forum are experts so I'll leave rest to them since I'm not well versed and can only add my own personal progress.
Hope all goes well.

Thanks for the advise. As for the meds I don't know anything about it. My doctor never said anything to me about it. She want me to go see a gastro doctor for my liver. And an ultrasound on my liver wensday. What's the best meds out there?  Are they shots or pills?  How long do u take them?

Tracy, You need to see a doctor. Only a doctor can see what you are talking about. Bumps can be caused by many conditions or illness. They are NOT a symptom of hepatitis C.

You say bumps are all over your body? Is it a rash? Are they red bumps? When did they appear?

Call a doctor tomorrow and get an appointment.

If you never have treated you hep C you should think about it. Ignoring it won't stop it from destroying your liver over time.

Good luck!
Hector
