ibuprofen or acetamenaphin?

by sb409us, Jun 12, 2008 09:57AM
Okay, I KNOW that I remember being told by the liver doctor who performed my biopsy that if I do need to take a pain reliever that I should take Tylenol.  My OB/GYN doctor just told me to take Advil for cramps because it isn't metabolized in the liver.  I rarely take anything, but if I do, which is less risky?  Liver biopsy one year ago found no significant tissue scarring.  My recent ALT enzyme levels are slightly lower than before, 61.  My other enzyme levels are normal.  I do still drink some wine on the weekends.  Thanks for any input.  I wasn't able to post this on the doctor forum today, it wouldn't allow more questions.

TYlenol and alcohol are bad news if you have HVC

My liver doctor says tylenol-only in the recommended dosage, never more.  Advil can involve organs other than the liver and since our livers are already under attack, best to keep everything else healthy seemed to be the thought.

I always defer to the information from the liver doc, they will be more up to date than doctors of other specialities.

Good luck to you.

Thanks.  I posted this to the wrong place.  I started a new post by mistake.  Anyway, thank you for your replies.

Should not take Alive or Advil, traditional anti-inflamatory's are a no no. I found a natural product that is the strongest anti-inflamatory/pain reliever you can get over the counter, but can only get it at a natural store, like pilgrims or mothers cupboard or Super Supplements. It is called Phenocane, I get it at Super Supplements, it has herbal roots etc., like Tumeric Root, it is expensive, but worth every penny. It is a miracle what this stuff can do. I have Hep C, been treated 4 times can't get rid of it, I have last stage Cirrhosis, am going to need a liver transplant before long, this can be taken safely with liver disease and hepatitis.
Good Luck,

Hey that is great I am happy your results came out negative. I am taking fioricet for headaches and it has acetamenaphin. I have heard alot of negative things about actamenaphen. That is the only medication I am taking and I donot drink. I have been taking this medication for awhile and it seems to be the only one that has helped my headaches so far. The doctor tried me on several different meds, and this is the only one that stopped the headache before it became a migrane.
