Here's the catch-22 as I see it. Even if these findings are supported by subsequent research, there is nothing to be gained by this knowledge. Ibuprofen is strictly contraindicated for those who have decompensated liver disease. And encephalopathy is always 100% reversible using current regimens, which do not carry the associated risks of ibuprofen. If it could be shown to help recovery from encephalopathic coma (50% mortality rate) it might be worth the risk in this setting. Perhaps that research will follow.
