The red spot is a normal injection site reaction from the interferon. My nurse told me to expect it. However my red spots are not so bad, but like others have responded, I try to find a fresh injection site each time. . . It is getting more challenging week, as i'm running out of clear space, lol.
I don't take anything for and it is not bothersome except to look at. So I wear clothing that covers the erea.
Best wishes,
Shyrl
Riba causes Riba-rash, Interferon causes Interferon Fury, lol
I will edit my statement, so...."unscented products are the safest to use, while treating with Riba, as treating with Riba may cause skin sensitivites, as well as photosensitivity"
Hi.
I found that in the early days of Interfering, I got nasty bruising and rashes around injecting site.. I began to notice that there was some residue when I pulled off the cap before injecting, so I started to use a swab to clean the run off. I find I now get a little rash for a week or so, about 3 days after the Interfering, but not much irritation.
So it's not the Ribavirin that causes Riba rash?
wait, then why do they say avoid the fragrances also? My skin was very easily irritated, while I treated with Ribavrin, and I am pretty sure that the sun caused me to have welts on my torso, when I treated with Riba, but I didn't call it a "sun-rash", I called it a Riba-Rash, becuz taking Riba can cause Photo-sensitivity, but we dont call it a "photo-sensitivity rash" we call it a "riba-rash", are we mincing words here?
" For the lotion and other products, unscented is what is safest, to avoid any other kind of rash, like Riba-Rash."
I always thought it was the Ribavirin that caused Riba rash......
I got the reddened circular areas on both my thighs and my abdomen after injecting the Interferon. They were about 1.5 to 2 inches in diameter and would appear about 4-6 days after I injected the Interferon. Unfortunately they stayed awhile. Eventually, after several weeks, they faded. I rotated sites, R thigh, L thigh, R abdomen, L abdomen. Then I would start over, but choose a spot that was not red. So I would go down the thigh a bit and pick a spot that was not red. The redness lasted awhile, several weeks, so eventually I had trouble finding spots that were not red. I never put anything on those reddened injection site areas.
You won't get Riba rash from scented lotion and other scented products, but it is best to use hypoallergenic soaps, lotions, shampoos, etc. so as not to aggravate any rash you may get from Incivek or Riba.
I don't think it needs cream, as that may close your pores, but that's my personal opinion, you may have different skin then me, of course.
I did get those red marks when I received my shots from a Medical Assist, at my clinic, but when I did it at home, and injected myself, I no longer got the red marks, which I had from the second week to the 12 week.
I always used rubbing alcohol, as I remember, dont know if I was reacting to that?
It also may be in the technique, because it hurt, when the two med assists did it, but when I did it myself, it just went in painlessly, and there wasn't the red, or sometimes the black and blue mark, that I got when somebody else plunged the needle, which is so small. I used my intuition for the placement. I thought that part was kind of fun, but I didn't have the redipen, I had this glass syringe. Another thing I did differently than my clinic, was I took the Interfeon out of the fridge, and let it warm up for about 20 minutes, no biggee. I would just set my kitchen up very clean, with the sun-light, so I could see well. I would grab a piece of skin, and go very carefully.
For the lotion and other products, unscented is what is safest, to avoid any other kind of rash, like Riba-Rash.
