Has anyone injected peg in the arm instead of belly or thigh?

I've done allergy injections in the triceps for 10 years and it never bothered me.  The stomach area where I've been doing the peg and neupogen shots is getting more sensitive and the bruises remain as long as a week after the shot.

I have not simply because I can't 'pinch some skin' then inject. If I had another hand on one of my arms I would give it a shot because I've worn my stomach out and if I inject into my legs I get bad site reactions so I stopped using my thigh.

I get a red rash the size of a golf ball at my injection site. Usually, there's one fading one more recent red one and then I have to inject again. I think the stomach has to be more comfortable, I don't much like the whole thigh thing for the procrit. I've heard people say they get a worse reaction in the arm and it hurts more.

I'm a belly guy...and sloppy so I gotta use two hands.  I had some rashes pop up on both injection sites early on in my treatment but for the most part I've remained rash and bruise free. Rashes elsewhere is a different story. Geez, the itching...

So, do you think it's OK to do injections in the arms?

I mean, I'm not gonna melt and dissolve into a slimy green pool on the floor like the wicked witch from OZ, am I? (I'm referring ONLY to the effect of peg-in-the-arm, thank you very much.)

*laughing*  I doubt  that it will do THAT to you - but I am NOT a doctor ;-)
Actually the nurse practitioner said I could do the peg in my arm - if I could manage it.  I can't - I seem to need BOTH hands to inject.

Good luck!

I suppose if you have the frickin' nads for it you could inject it straight into your heart with a cardiac needle ala 'Pulp Fiction', brother.

Can you inject procrit into your arm ? I don't see why not. This isn't a prosthetic arm is it ?

Sorry bout that second post. Was on the phone and typing at the same time. Should've realized I can't multi task any more. Won't happen again.

Since I've got YOUR seal of approval, I'm gonna go for it.

(And it's YOUR fault if I dissolve).  hahaha

hahahaha.

(It's pegasys, not procrit.)

About the prosthetic arm - is that a trick question?

Teufel,
NP.  I can't even do ONE thing at a time anymore much less multi-task.

I've done subcutaneous allergy injections in the arms for 10 years with no problem

The reason I asked about the peg and neup shots is that I'm getting a little queasy about shooting in the stomach, maybe coz the bruises are so large and last so long.

Or maybe coz I'm just used to injecting in the arms.

I just wondered, really, if there was any medical reason NOT to inject there.

(Or, as it suddenly occurred to me I seem to have have this SAME issue every Friday night, maybe I just wanna AVOID doing the deed for as long as possible.)

Busted????

Sorta. I'm just saying you'll need a hollow point drill for the job. My understanding is others who have tried injecting into a prosthetic have generally not had success. If it's a titanium arm, forget it.

I just talked to my doc about injecting intron and told him I was only injecting into my stomach and he said 'it doesn't matter where you inject'. ( I'm sure he knows that I know that that is within' reason.) But I'm sure you could inject anywhere. It's a matter of effectiveness rather than safety, I think.

I'm pretty sure I've accidentally hit a vein and IV'd intron because it gave me a bizarre rush and I could taste it. Otherwise it had no effect beyond the normal.

I've given myself 1000's of injections of all sorts of garbage over the years, hence my predicament. There is no interferon injection that is gonna harm you.

I've been using stomach only. Tonight the needle seemed dull. That never happened before. I stuck it a little in and then pulled it out and tried it in another spot. Don't know if that breaks any shoot'n rules, but I did it anyhow. I made sure I used the alcohol pad in the second spot too tho.

This shot made me feel mellow for some reason. I'm not mellow, so thats a switch. I'm sure my husband will like the new 'mellow me' better than the 'unmellow me' he married. He should savor the moment because I doubt it will last. I feel like I took a mild sedative or something.

LO,
Hey, you're a riot tonight.

"you'll need a hollow point drill for the job. My understanding is others who have tried injecting into a prosthetic have generally not had success. If it's a titanium arm, forget it."

But I take it that, after significant research, you've concluded it doesn't matter where you stick yourself (within reason, of course.)  So think I'll try the triceps.

MO,
Wow.  Shot made you mellow?

By within reason I mean, subcutaneous rather than intra-muscular or IV. The arms, legs, stomach are legitimate injection sites for interferon but I'm sure you could use other places that can't be reached by your regular type person. I use my stomach and I go fairly far from one side to the other.

Okay, since I've become one with a dart board, I thought I'd comment. I asked my nurse and he said there were many places including the underarm area. I think its a tender spot but if you don't mind doing it there, it shouldn't be a problem.
BTW: I have gone into hybernation mode so I won't bite someone's head off. I hide in the hills and read my book, listen to the radio and curse the politicians.

Sounds like a good plan to me.  :)

What are you reading?  (I started rereading Dreiser - Sister Carrie and An American tragedy)

You don't want to know about my insane reading habits, do you? I'm reading several books at the same time depending on how I feel at the moment.
The best book I've read recently, was Ghenghis Khan, and the making of the modern world.  It's fairly new, is well researched and revealing.
Time to turn off the machine. Say hello to the birds for me.

I have never thought about the arm.  I use my upper thigh.  It is red but does not hurt or anything for a few days.  By the time next week it is gone.

my first shot was done by doctor's nurse and it was in the back area/upper arm;  my husband has been giving me my shots and they have been in abdomen area, below waist.  My arm ached for two weeks after first shot; have not had hardly any reaction to the abdomen as yet, with exception of area being slightly red, but no discomfort.

Hey did you read that Janet Evanovitch series ? I never LOL so much while reading.  But since you ask, I love historical novels. I've read a zillion travel books. I tend to go to the library and pick out whatever grabs my eye. Right now, I'm reading a book on Eygpt and language called The Name of Things by Susan Morrow. I've got a little Buddhist meditation book called, In This Very Life. It was a present and I am reading it very slowly.  I love David Sedaris, he is so funny.   I love Burma and will read anything I can get my hands on that deals with the culture of that intriquing place.  A freind sent me the Forger, a good read about forgers in Paris during the German occupation. They tried to fool the Germans by giving them forgeries while hiding great works of art, all over the country.   If I start talking a lot about compassion, then I'm probably reading one of the Dalai Lama's books. He amazes me. Altruism, is so beyond my ability but is something to aspire towards. Okay, enough rambling. I'm going to get my Neupogen and poke my skin, once again.
