Bless your heart! I can totally relate to the insomnia! My doctor has me on 7.5 mg of Restoril at this point. It doesn't help me fall asleep but it will help keep me asleep. My sleep schedule is to go to bed around midnight. Lie there for an hour and a half to three hours trying to fall asleep. Then I sleep till 6:30 - get up, take meds, stumble back to bed and sleep until around noon. I nap in the afternoon if I can.
What is also helping me get a little sleep is the Atarax and Benadryl that I am taking for the rash.
My only advice....grab your sleep when you can....middle of the day, afternoon...whenever.

I alternate Ambien (10 mg.) with 3 mg. Melatonin. When that doesn't work, I take both. My pharmicist says there's no problem with combining the two.

I have had the battle with anemia and I have used it all along even if it's just before you go to bed. I also so have in the form of liquid I can use when out. Also I use a vaporizer it's cleaner and better for your lungs.
That was the only good thing when I was fighting te Bronchitis all I wanted to do was sleep and I took full advantagr!

Wow, herb sounds good, but I am afraid, until I treat my anemia, because I  already feel so weird. I get rly wired also, form the insomnia, but never let myself take a nap in the daytime, To rest, I just sit straight up here, at the 'puter, exhausted, but mentally active : )

the herb helps and you can get different types. I have a day and night. As far as pills go I take Nortriptyline 2 MCG at bedtime. The other tip and it's hard is not to let yourself nap at all. I lay down during the day even a 20 min. nap or I'm up all day. The other thing I hate is sometimes I go 2 or 3 nights of not sleeping and I am completely wired and like some else said it makes all the other sx more intense!

Hi stalion, I do have insomnia, but I am afraid to use Ambien, because I have kids to in the house, and I am always kind of prepared to handle an emergency, etc.
What I do, is I always stay out of the bed, until it is time to sleep. I take my last dose of pills, with some food, take a relaxing shower, if I feel grimy, and force myself to lie down around 11-11;30 pm, same time everynight.
Even if i wake up, which I always do, around 3-4 am, I just get up and eat a small snack, and force myself to lie down again, and usually go back to sleep with an hour and a half. I'm up again by 7 am, but always get at least 5 hrs, and manage to work all day.....ahhhhh It's called good sleep hygiene, but I am pretty tired, around 6 pm, so I stay quiet and rest at that point.

Hi I looked in the Prescribing information and it says the Zolpiedm (which is Ambien) can be partially blocked by Incivek, you can look at your insert that comes with your Incivek
Again, good luck

Hi Stalion: Reference Stormy's comment. Here is the quote from the Incivek Medication Guide that she alluded to regarding Ambien (Zolpidem), "zolpidem (non- benzodiazepine sedative).
Exposure to zolpidem was decreased when co-administered with telaprevir. Clinical monitoring and dose titration of zolpidem is recommended to achieve the desired clinical response."

I also take Zolpidem for my drug induced insomnia. The standard version is either 5mg or 10mg. The CR version is 12.5mg. I tried both the standard and the CR versions. I didn't notice much difference so I am now taking the standard (10mg) version (mostly because it costs less).

Reference LF12's comment. I took Restoril (Temazepam) about 13 years ago. It was VERY effective for adjusting my circadian rhythm after traveling half-way around the world. If I thought I could take Restoril for the duration of treatment, without becoming addicted to it, I would prefer it over the Ambien. In LF12's situation, Restoril sounds like a good short-term solution to get her past a particularly severe side effect she is experiencing. However, Restoril likely would not be a good long-term solution to treat insomnia throughout the entire treatment. Just my non-medical opinion, of course. Cheers, GB

Ribavirin made it hard for me to sleep until I changed my second dose until earlier in the day. Because of it's long half life, it's fine to take it 5 hours apart.
I took it with breakfast and lunch.

Good luck.

The insomnia is one of the worse side effects, seems to exacerbate all other side effects.  Are you taking Incivek?  If so, it reduces efficacy of Ambien by about 50%.  My husband, who is very sensitive to Ambien, and took an occasiona 2.5 mg to sleep, had to up his dosage to 10mg during the INC portion of his treatment (upon doctor's advice, of course)   Now he's down to about 5 mg. which works fine.

The other recommendation I would have is to move your 2nd dose of riba earlier in the afternoon.  I don't know what time you're taking it, but that definitely can affect sleep.  Hope this helps!

Hi, I was on Lunesta for the entire tx and it worked great. Ambien comes in two forms one is extended ambien, do you know which one you are on? You should talk to your Dr about which one you are on.I took regular ambien long before tx and it didn't work too well for me either. Best of luck....Fred

There is new information out that ambien may have some links to early mortality.  Don't take my word for it. Try googling "ambien news".

Hi I tried Melatonin, the Ambien did not work for me.  I later "heard" that Incivek can block the results.  You might want to check with a doctor or your Specialty Pharmacy
Benadryl can help as well, as Billy said it is real drag when your days and nights get mixed up
