how your liver is doing? if you have some degree of fibrosis it won't be preferable

Wouldn’t drinking in Pakistan have its on risks? I know it is legal (partially) but strongly looked down upon.

If you're in this forum, then you have HCV.  This can kill you; it happens all the time.  Treatment so far has enabled you to achieve a significant viral response.  Why on earth would you choose to resume consumption of a primary stress-inducer?  I'm just asking.

go for it. you earned it! moderate drinking will not harm you at all if you treated and SVR.

I guess there are alot of reasons not to start drinking, for me its the gateway to what got me here.. For the folks that didnt ask for the HCV, I would still weigh the scales toward sobriety... I cringe when I hear people speak of tatoos now.....

i agree with copyman
when I hopefully SVR I most definately will go back to enjoy some alcohol in moderation. If its vanilla ice cream topped with raspberry liquor or a nice glass
of chianti with my italian dinner......Yummy !!

it is all about moderation.  if alcohol got you here, then stay away.  but many of us with hep c never had a problem with it, so if the liver is good why not.

I'd weigh the decision to drink on your personal history with alcohol and the condition of your liver before and after tx.

pj...the thought of tatoos post SVR makes me cringe, too

Alcohol is not at all the gateway to what got me here, personally.  I've never been much of a drinker and it's not a problem area for me in any way.  I gave up drinking and single malt whisky along with it when I was diagnosed for the most part and particularly on treatment and beyond.  When I went SVR, I now enjoy the occasional single malt whisky and cold red or dark beer on occasion and few and far between.  I am grateful that I get to enjoy such pleasures again.  It doesn't hurt me in any way and doesn't send me down some kind of downwards spiral.  Every person's situation is different.

I'd agree with Isobella - good factors to make your decision on.  If drinking alcohol is going to lead you to do stupid and harmful things to your body and your life, just stay away from it.  And be kind to your liver if it's in need of a little tenderness.

50% of Genotype 1 people will not reach SVR (with the current treatment).  The sole reason I don't condone drinking and tatoos is that we have all been given a chance to rid ourselves of this disease, some are luckier than others.  I hope my day will come that I can post the SVR result, and if I can, I would like to kiss my liver and baby it..  I used the cigarette comparison to point out the fact that this is a liver disease forum, we should all agree that we should do anything to respect our livers.  Shoot... You dont have to be SVR to drink, if you really want to you can drink with HCV.. I am here to do the next right thing to better my chances of living a life free of liver problems.

I respect what you're saying.  I wish all were in my enviable position of not showing any liver damage after reaching SVR.  I don't think I need to refrain from alcohol myself because that is not the case and neither do I have any addiction issues.  It's all rather situational.  I'm personally not about to tell all SVR's that they should not ever have any alcohol.  For me, it's entirely situational based on your history with alcohol and your own liver damage. We'll have to agree to disagree on this one as I respect your right to your opinion.

first i pay thanks to all for great response. i remained on this forum during the treatment (sept 2008 to march 2009). i also still remember some names i.e. maracia, kristina, merrybe, copyman, nigygirl, scruple, trinty, trish, isobella, fretboard and so on. i will remember this forum for life time because it helped and supported me a lot. if i had not encouraged and supported by this forum i would have not completed my Tx.

Ok i tell you about my patient history.

i started drinking in 2002 and remained drinker for 1 year. After a year in 2003 i got ill and remained in the bed for 2 months. Issues were loss of appetite and extreme fatigue and weakness. Finally was diagnosed with HCV. Then i left drinking and still dont drink. But some times i wish to drink. I still dont know how i got HCV? Whether i got it through drinking or it was already in my blood and it became reactive due to drinking. it is still dilemma for me.

Glad you stopped by and I hope you're doing well!  I guess the consensus is you can have a drink if you want but as you can tell I will probably get verbally slapped for saying that.lol  Anyways, I remember you and I was really glad to hear you SVR'd as I remember it wasn't a walk in the park for you and you were faced with many difficult days.  good luck, whether you decide to have that drink or not!

You wouldn't have gotten Hep C from drinking.  After all that you've been through, you should know that Hep C is a blood to bloodstream transmitted disease.

I would say if it's a dilemma then don't bother.  It's not something that should cause you angst or difficulty.  If you have to distress over it then I would say just don't.  A drink is really not that important in the big scheme of things and if it causes you such stress to think about whether you should or not, then not drinking will be far less stressful for you.

I personally wouldn't, but then again I don't drink alcohol anyway. I haven't for may years and I really don't care for it at all.

But in your case, I don't see why you shouldn't have an occasional drink, if you feel like it.

Good to see you around my friend!
