is nose bleed sx?

I woke up this morning, went to blow my nose, and was surprised to see my nose was bleeding. I have gotten nose bleeds at high altitudes so I usually stay close to sea level, where I belong.    The question is, has anyone heard of nose bleeds as a side effect of tx?

I went and bought a cheap hot vaporizer.  The old kind.  Love it.  I wake up and my lips and mouth are not dry...nor my eyes. My skin feels better too.   The winter between the dry cold and the heaters there is no moisture anywhere to be found.

Besides your skin that becomes dry your sinus membranes do as well. A humidifier or moisturizer nose spray may help with the nose bleeds if it continues to be a problem.

thanks, I told my husband it wasn't just the dry air. Dry air, its foggier than the clouds out there! I wonder if my bleeding nose could be a weapon of mass destruction and if so, will it disappear too?

I've had only one nosebleed since beginning tx, & it was like the one you had, after blowing my nose. Hope you don't get any more. I would question it if it persists.

I had some nosebleeds, well quit a few in fact. Then I started using neosprorn on a Q-tip and in the nose. It really helped. In fact I don't have to do that anymore and haven't had one in a while. I am almost 5 months into treatment. Try it before bed It really helps, Take Care, Debi
PS I think mine are because of low platelets, but I guess it could just be a SX.

All joking aside I would try what Tulsa did.  I have to think that because our membranes get SO dehydrated that that is it. That is how I got the stupid mouth bumbs which is probably about the same type of thing...from dehydration.

If it's foggy and cloudy and stuff OUTSIDE it doesn't mean it is inside you!

I was told that interferon will cause a drop in platlets.  Since they may already be low due to liver disease I would call the doctor if the nose bleeds continue and/or the humidifier does not help.

Well I do know my platelets are low. I just had lab work done and will see Mr. TooBusyAlltheTime, my doc, next week. I'll see what he thinks.
Maybe my body just wants to go back to the tropics.

Nose bleeds are common in the winter even for those who don't have HCV and are on tx. If you get a whole lot of them and they keep bleeding too long then I'd be concerned.

Hi Hawk.  I agree - if you blew your nose and it started bleeding, it probably has a lot to do with the weather, the dry heat, your dry membranes from tx., etc.  My nose began bleeding really bad (not even on tx) when my platelets took a dive.  It would just start bleeding out of the blue, though.  I had big bruises all over, too.  But the nose bleeds were atrocious back then.

If I could package up humidity, I'd send you ALL we have. Get yourself a tropical humidifier with the sounds of the ocean :)

I am now really curious to see the results of my lab test, whether my platelets have altered.
If I had a humidifier that sounded like the ocean, I'd keep looking for where the massuese is.  I have been fortunate enough to live in a few places where I could hear the sea. Now I hear the quietude. Thanks though, I think I'll put a pot of water on the wood stove.

Too funny! Pretty quick wit putting the sounds and the masseuse together. Thanks for the laugh!
