itchy face

Hi all: This Friday will be my 5th week on meds. I just developed dry, itchy skin on face around mouth, under nose and chin. Has anyone else developed this. Is this part of the sx or am I developing an allergy? It is so irritating. I bought benadryl gel and put it on on the way home from work. It relieved it after a few minutes. I just washed my face and put on some more before bed. It burns a little when I put it on. I'm going to take a capful of liquid benadryl now and see if it goes away. If it does, then I am assuming I am developing an allergy reaction to one or the other meds. I did read that there may be itchy skin. Getting a little nervous about allergic reaction if I continue taking meds. Will it get worse and start effecting other parts of me. Breathing etc. I do have mild COPD and meds seem to make my breathing a little more labored. I have blood work tomorrow and Dr. appointment Friday. Will bring this up, but was hoping this is one of the possible sx. Let me know. Are there Docs. in this community that could answer my concerns. Thanx  Liz

My daughter has three more months to go on her treatment.  Right now she is skin and bones, she has always been small but I think she weighs about 103, 5'4 tall.  She is losing her hair, bald spot on back of head.  Her color is grey, she has splotches on her face that are very dry and bother her.  Her hip has a ache that does not seem to go away.  She has no energy and is amemic.  She is 43 years old with two young children and no help at home, (except me.)  Her doctor is through the county that treats many and just says that's to be expected when we tell her the problems.  We only see her about every other month.  I am extremely worried.  Does anyone else out there have any advice?

Thanx for the name of the lotion. I'll pick some up tomorrow and give it a try. 5th shot tomorrow. I'm looking for the end already. Oh well, you play, you pay. Gotta do it.  Liz

This is extremely common. I just took my 9th shot, and for the last couple weeks I've been noticing increasing itching, especially around the face, temples, forehead, and scalp. It's not devastating, just really annoying to want to scratch at it every few minutes.

Study nurse recommended a lotion called "Cera Ve". It's a little pricy, but it does the trick for me. I think any of the major drug stores carry it. I like it because it's totally non-greasy, and has no smell at all, and goes on super fast. (Hey, I'm a guy. I'm not used to having to put this junk all over my body - we "soap and go").

I had some itching around the upper chest and arms too, but the lotion has pretty much stopped that. There was a minor rash starting at my neckline, but it too has subsided since I started using the lotion.

Very common side effect. Hang in there.

Thanx, That's a big help. I will call my dermatologist now and ask her for a good face cream with no alcohol. Do not have any other bad sx as of yet. Just tired. And get a little more irritable at the smallest things.

I will be taking shot 7 tomorrow and am starting to notice this itchy skin as well. Make sure you are drinking PLENTY of fluids, pls you may want to look at your lotions an face soap for alcohol. I had to get new ones for just the little alcohol in mine were making it worse and even burning!

Best of luck!

I have found that if I keep a good quality lotion on my skin, the itchiness isn't too bad. If I start itching anyhow, I just put more lotion on. Body oil production has cut way back since starting tx last April. I don't think allergy has anything to do with it... at least for me. It is just a side effect... one of MANY.

We just learn how to make the sx as bearable as possible and look for that light at the end of the tunnel.

i am a few weeks ahead of u in treatment and do have itchyness of face arms back legs head etc. no rash though. i try to keep skin moisturized and mix some hydrocortisone with lotion when it is unbearable. i do not want to overdo with the hydrocortisone as it is absorbed thru skin. i have no other sx that lead me to be concerned and i believe this is just an annoyance for now. best, babs
