just wondering if any of you have experienced any kidney problems

I got hit with a kidney stone last night it hurt so bad i almost got up and drove to emergency room. I had some hydrocodones and took 1 of them with 2 tylenol, nothing happened. Ended up getting maybe 1 hour of sleep. This morning the pain became so intense that i started throwing up and sweating (i thought i was going to die or have a heart attack). i was waiting for a friend to come and take me to hospital, but all i could think of was getting to the ER and what if something would of happened while in my friends car? I ended up calling 911 and that is something that i would never do unless i thought i was going to die, which i did feel this way, or i thought also that i may of had a bowel obstruction and if they have to operate my blood counts are sooooo low and platlets today were at 54, so that made me nervous too. The ER doc also kept calling my doc and they never returned call, my husband was pissed!!!!! I also have kidney infection and they said my liver is enlarged and there are some other stones that are small and hopefully will pass with no problems. Can hep c affect kidneys?

yes HCV can affect the kidneys. HCV is associated with glomerulonephritis. See the following link:

what exactly do you mean by compromised? I only have 10 shots left.

Before I tx'd, I had to get lithotripsies on both kidneys to get rid of kidney stones.  I think the HCV made me more prone to making kidney stones, but my doctor is not so sure.

Since finishing tx in early Oct, I passed 2 peppercorn-sized kidney stones on my own.  I'd like to think it means the state of my kidneys is getting better...

i am glad for you that your kidneys r getting better (:. I was shocked because I have never in my life had any problems with kidneys or kidney infections. Also this happened so fast, no warnings , although i did feel a little extra fatigued that week and had JUST been to family doc, and told her that i had a feeling i had some sort of infection going on, because i got these clear fluid sores all over my head face, and right arm and chest and they would not heal. She assured me that I was fine and it was from tx and that it would all go away when i was finished. The ER doc gave me cipro and it's amazing how with taking only 1 pill yesterday these sores and my lower leg rash (thats another story)  are healing. I just don't know who to trust anymore with these doctors? my hep c doc and family doc have not called yet, and i am not calling them because i don't trust them anymore.

jonney, For some reason after TX cipro itself gives me kidney infections along with thrush on my tongue.  It happened 3 times, coincedence, maybe maybe not.  Good Luck

I don't know your health history nor am I a doctor but from what you have written it sounds like you had a kidney stone and that caused an infection when the stone was trying to pass. This is a rather common occurrence with kidney stones and has nothing to due with any other health conditions you may have. You experienced the classic signs of a kidney stone. "I felt like I was going to die!" Acute kidney stone pain is particularly unpleasant and is often described as one of the strongest pain sensations felt by humans (including the pain of labor pains in a female)! Nothing mysterious about it. Just do a search on Kidney stone symptoms to see your symptoms described.

Kidney stones do not just suddenly appear. It may take quite some time for them to grow in size where they will be large enough to cause you to feel them and for them to cut your ureters or kidneys and cause an infection. Note that you still had other kidney stones inside your kidneys when imaging was done. So your body is making them. Unless they pass, they too will grow larger and larger. The best tip to prevent kidney stones is to always stay hydrated. Drink plenty of water.

If you continue to have future kidney stones then it may be a chronic problem. There are treatments which will help you to manage your kidney stones but there is no cure for kidney stones.

I myself have had kidney stones for the last 12 years and have had about 15 large stones and 2 operations to remove stones that were to large to pass. Kidney stones are painful but is not something that is life threatening such as advanced HCV and liver failure or many other diseases. In the big picture it is something that can be managed and you can live a normal life.

What is troublesome is your platelet count! 54,000. That is very low. A normal platelet count ranges from 150,000 and 450,000. If this figure is correct you should see a doctor as soon as possible to find out what is causing this. Some causes of Thrombocytopenia are very serious.

Good luck.
