kidney Transplant

Hey everyone, hope everyone's doing well. Sorry haven't said anything in a while was terribly sick with the BP and gout in my hands, finally feel human again. Have six more wks of treatment to go, thank goodness! while I haven't had bad sides, I have no energy. My house is so dirty it may never come clean. Anyway the big news is I made it ti the unos list (National Transplant List) although hopefully my donor will match, my sister, I have to have living donor because of COPD. If she doesn't have to find a donor. But she's fixing to start testing soon and if she matches we will do the transplant in Dec. They can't test anyone till you're actually on list. We are basically just alike same body type, hair eyes, hopefully blood matches. Anyway just wanted to tell everyone and hope it all works. Like i said hope everyone is doing good. Take care Linda

My God...it's so great to hear from you!

I am going to pray hard that the living donor situation works right away - that your sister is a perfect match.  I'm so glad you are finally on the LIST - it must feel hopeful to be getting somewhere huh?

You know you have all of my best thoughts during all of this.

Lin, I always watch for posts from you.  I am so happy to hear this news.  I do hope your sister is a match.  I had no idea about the COPD requiring a living donor.  It has certainly been a long haul, and it still is a long one to December, but at least there is an end date.  Is the interferon still keeping the kidney failure side effects down?

My hubby may have just had a little round with gout himself -- miserable condition -- in his elbow - swoll up to the size of a soft ball and the orthopedic surgeon said he had never seen anything just like it. Had to take a prednisone pack.   His research showed that the uric acid build up is related to the kidneys' inability to get rid of the uric acid.  Drink plenty of water, my friend. You don't want to have to deal with a kidney stone on top of all the other problems you have been having.

By the way, my research on COPD and hepatitis C has shown that it is possible to HELP the COPD with the interferon treatment.  This is because they suspect that the virus inflames the lungs just like it does the liver.

Rest well, lin

Thanks to everyone of you,the encouragement definately brings a smile, you are all such good-hearted people, and I also found out since I posted if they find a perfect match cadaever we can go ahead, but it has to be perfect or can't do. I didn't hear this when we went to talk to transplant team but husband did. When I called to talk about not being around places where people smoke, the coordinator told me. I quit smoking 2 mths ago and I feel like a child. My insurance is giving me random smoking tests which is fine, but in order to go anywhere or anything have to wear face mask, all my friends smoke so after about an hr they are ready to see me go. My husband smokes. So now I'm more isolated than I already was. It stinks. I can't eat, can't drink, can't smoke, very little that I can do. But all in all it's the means to an end. Don't mind me just venting, and you all tolerate me which I really appreciate. Thanks so much, I'll keep you all posted

I'm so very happy you're almost finished treating and making real progress with your kidney transplant. It's been a much tougher and more complicated road for you than most. I hear you about the house cleaning. After treatment neglect, at this point it might be easier for me to simply find another place to live and start all over again :)

All the best.

I hear you on the difficulty being around smokers.  I think after a period time, you end up moving on -- finding new friends that don't smoke.  You just don't want to be around it.  I quit in 1983 but my hubby continued to smoke for a few years.  I worked in an office of smokers, and after about 20 years of it, talked with my partner about making it a smoke-free office.  To my amazement, she agreed. I feel a little guilty about making the smokers go stand outside in 100+ weather, but not that guilty.

Lin your progress has been amazing.  Congrats on the smokeless 2 months.
