kidney functions § hepatitis C

by Jack, Nov 21, 2000 12:00AM
I have end stage hepatitis C and am on the VA liver transplant list (since 2-00).  I am taking 6 tablespoons of lactulose a day, between 150 to 200mg aldactone and 75 to 100mg lasix daily.
All had been okay until about 30 days ago, then my stomach started becoming larger, my weight went up about 10 to 12 lbs and the cramping related to diuretics became much more severe.  I take quinine sulfate for the cramps and have had to take up to 4 capsules (325mg caps) to combat the cramps.  The diuretics seem to work only occasionally.  I have tried reducing the amount of fluid intake, yet the weight remains the same and I look as though I am 9 months pregnant!  During this period of time my creatinine level has gone up to where it is now, 1.6 (normal range up to 1.4).  I have spoken to the transplant team nurse at the Portland VA and was told that I should take this up with a doctor at the West LA VA.  They seem to have nothing to say.  Soooo, I thought I would get your opinion prior to seeing the Liver department at the VA next month.  Please help.
Jack
