lab test results

I need help with the results of lab test results and their meanings.
The patient is a 56 year old male with hep c

ALPHA-FETO PROTIEN TUMOR MARKER ALPHA-FETOPROTEIN is way out of range @
179.0 ng/ml normal range for a male is <9.0

AST (SGOT) 114 U/L normal range is 10 - 35

ALT (SGPT) 155 U/L normal range is 9 - 60

These are the only out of range results on his labwork and I'd like to know the significance of these results.

the tumor marker is for liver cancer but im guessing that its far from conclusive
so dont sweat that until they run more tests.
the alt , ast  can be over      1000 sometimes        500 we see every once in awhile
200 and down is typical for the average hep c person. yours is moderately low in a relative sense.

afp are elevated in people with hep c but 179 is quite high. has he had an ultrasound or ct to check for liver tumors?  If not he should get this done soon.

Sorry, just saw you have Hep C. Can you post your genotype and VL? Also if you have had a biopsy, what is the stage and grade?

Sorry, I don't know about the tumor marker...sounds like you need someone to translate this!

The AST and ALT are really high.  Do you have Hep C?  you don't say...

Love to help, but need more stats!
