lab work results

all my lab results were in normal range  (ast 26 ) (alt 28 )  (bilirubin 0.6)
but my RNA quantitive was 1620 (abn:H)  normal is <50
what does this mean anyone know?

Hi Jay,

Yes; the AST/ALT are liver enzymes; these can elevate in some patients with liver disease, although not all. The fact that yours are within normal range really don’t tell us too much.

The remarkable results are your HCV RNA results; this is *extremely* low. Typically, HCV RNA can be in the millions, if not 10’s of millions. Your HCV RNA quantitative results are also known as Viral Load. This represents the amount of HCV virus in your blood per milliliter. You should discuss these results with your doctor to see if there’s any clinical relevance.

                                  result                  units                normal range
                               1620 abn H              IU/ml                 <50
                                 3.21 abn H             log IU/ ml            <1.70

what does second one mean?

They mean the same thing. The second one is just giving you the log value of your viral load.

The numerical viral load of 1620 IU/mL as well as the log10 value of 3.21 IU/mL are both the same number, expressed differently. This is an extremely low figure for someone with HCV; however, there is no *good* viral load. If it exists, it is bad for the host…

Discuss this with your physician; there may be some clinical significance associated with a low figure like this—

thanks again...i guess i get alot of answers when i see specialist tuesday...just curious but how  long have you had this and how are you doing with it? will the therapy add years to my life? wouldnt mind getting a lil more of that..afraid of the therapy and if i can handle it...reading about all the side effects from drugs is frightening.
