liver desease and tonsilities

I have high liver enzymes and the doctor dosen't know what is wronge. I don't have hep A B or C and I don't drink. I only take 3 medications for pain and being bi-polar. I recently can down with tonsilites and I was wondering if my liver had anything to do with it. Like...Does it cause your immune system to go down? And are you more pron to infection? thanks Sheiba

Hi Shieba.  I don't know what medications you're on, but some medications alone  (and some especially when combined with others) can be harmful to your liver and cause your liver function tests to be "off".   If you are taking the drug, Depakote, for bi-polar (which is frequently prescribed for bi-polar), you need to know this medication can harm your liver, and your doctor should tell you what to watch out for as far as your liver is concerned with respect to this drug.  It can also be associated with infections.  Do not stop taking any of your medications, though (I am NOT a doctor and not recommending that you stop anything a doc has prescribed to you), but please ask your doctor about this.  If you have been on three drugs and your liver tests have been abnormal for some time, your doctor needs to do something.  If he keeps saying he doesn't know why they are up, I would get a second opinion.  Get copies of your lab work, too. Best of luck.
