liver pain?

by dhsaber, Jul 01, 2006 12:00AM
Yesterday my back was hurtig really bad, so I took 2 vicodin.
last night I started having bad pain on right side just under
the rib cage around last rib. I thought this might be liver pain
because it seemed like the same area I remembered having paininyears ago whn I got my liver byopsy done. Still hurting today not as extreme, but still there. Do you think yhis is because of the vicodin, or just a quinky dink. Afraid to take anything now. Oddly enough, back when I first herniated the disc in my back they had me on vicodin for a couple years, now
one percocet a day for the last 8 years. thats why I was surprised to foe vicodin to suddenly effect it. a couple months ago I had my blood test done and know inflamation (inflammation) showed up.
Can it change that quickly. Afraid to take my Percocet pill today.

I don't believe your pain meds have anything to do with it.  I would see if it lasts much longer and if it does see your doc.  I know a lot of us are on pain meds(I take Methadone 3x a day) And although I just started treatment have no issues.  My doc said that pain meds should not cause a problem.  You said you were taking only one a day right?  Just to keep in the back of you mind Vicodine or Vicoprofin has tylenol or ibprofen in it and both do get broke down by the liver.  I have multiple doctors in my family and they have told me this since I started having back issues.  Some may disagree but either drug does make your liver work harder but in small doses should not cause damage.  If you are also taking any over the counters with it you could be over your daily limit and that over time is a problem.  Hope that helps but I'm sure you will be good in a day or two.

Take care,

Steve
