Can you be in esld and still qualify to be on a liver transplant list. Husband was told by doctor in michigan he could not

criteria vary depending on things like advanced cancer, ongoing abdominal infection with sepsis, and other health issues that would make transplant difficult to survive or recover from.  People have been transplanted whose disease is advanced, it depends on many many factors.

You cannot be transplanted with an abdominal infection ongoing because the immunosuppressants to stop the organ from being rejected will also make you unable to stave off such an infection. Certain heart and other serious conditions, can also preclude one from TP. Often Esld people do have abdominal infections ongoing so this is just one reason many of them cannot be transplanted. However, if there isn't a continual leaking, and if the infection can be cleared with Cipro or something like that, there is a chance they can go back on a wait list. Unfortunately it's hard to stay clear of these issues in end stage. We recently had a member who became too sick while waiting at the top of the list for them to still do the transplant. It's very very sad....but if a patient is a great risk of rejection, they will give it to the next one in line who has a chance of surviving.
