low platelets

Has anyone been put on Promacta to help with low platelets?

Like Bill, I've read about this stuff over time. One thing that I recall was that it contributes to tanking hgb. I'd expect that the doc will have a pretty tight tether on you while you're taking it.  Good luck.  It should be interesting.

My platelets were always low and there have been studies showing that it has helped keep platelets up enough to finish tx.  I started tx with platelets lower <49 dropped to 19 by the third week and was took off tx

I believe Promacta is the brand name for eltrombopag; it is a growth factor recently approved by the US FDA for ITP (idiopathic thrombocytopenia purpura). I’m unaware of it being prescribed for HCV alone. I understand it has some rather nasty side effects including hepatic toxicity; I’d be curious to know if you have obtained it for this purpose.
