marijuana legalized in Michigan

by kspeel, Dec 28, 2008 11:02PM
As a newly diagnosed and as yet unstarted for any therapy, I was wondering are the side effects like chemo where you are always sick? I have used marijuana in the past for pain from Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome and Fibromyalgia and joint replacement surgeries. Is this something that would help with the side effects once I start treatment? Will I still be able to use this method once I start? I live in Michigan and it is now legalized but I am afraid to tell my Doctor for fear he will think I am a drug addict (which I am not) I stopped taking pain killers because they make me sooo sick. Any help would be appreciated

I treated with one of the leading Hep C specialists in the country. He recommended marijuana for both nausea and weight loss, two common side effects during treatment. Some may chime in and say that newer studies suggest marijuana may accelerate fibrosis (liver damage). This is an apple and oranges analogy because we're not talking about long-term marijuana use but marijuana use for a limited period of time to help combat side effects. BTW you may not have these side effects but if you do marijuana could be your friend and hopefully will your doc's permission. As far as discussing beforehand, that depends how sophisticated your doc is. If he's a liver specialist (hepatologist) I doubt if you will have a problem. If he's your average gastroenterologist, you may. I suggest you treat with a hepatologist and not just for this reason,.
