melatonin boosts platelets

If you google search platelets +melatonin +mayo clinic there is an interesting article about melatonin boosting platelets in a variety of conditions.  I'm having my husband try this because I think it likely won't cause any harm and has a possibility of helping.  He has cirrhosis and his platelets have ranged from mid 40's to mid 80's . I bought a 3 mg. bottle from vita cost.  It isn't very expensive.  We are due for a blood draw in about 10 days which will likely be to soon to know if this is going to work.  I thought I'd throw this out here in case it could help others .  I haven't discussed this with a doctor so don't take my word for anything.
