I noticed the memory thing before I treated, I thought it was aging related (51 at that time). Now, I am not sure. Our bodies reaction to this invader year after year has to be affecting other organs in addittion to the liver.
welcome!

Thanks cuetus for your comment. I just realized what a **** I am thinking about petty stuff like this. I was reading the link of having passed it on to their children. Im now feeling really uncomfortable, but still knowing I can

It could be related to HCV but probably just an age thing. Just wait till you hit fifty! BTW my memory seemed to improve a little since starting treatment. Go figure.

Ummm...

How old am I?

Are those dang remote controls hiding in the fridge again???

LoL..... Just Kidding!

My short term memory loss didn't start until I started TX.

Thanks, at least you got me to laugh. Everything was daunting over me again because I just went through waiting for my wife tests to come back (negative). I just feel I can cope with this, but can

You sure you're not a menopausal icegirl?

I'm a 44 yr old male and when I 1st started getting sick a little over a year ago, I thought one explanation might just be a mid life crisis. I had memory problems, not as sharp mentally, and other slight personality changes that my friends and family also noticed.
After being diagnosed 10 months ago I've had alot of test, one showing I had high ammonia levels in my blood. Obviously if our blood chemistry is changing because of our liver function it can change many other things in our mind and body.
Good Luck to you, you've found a good place to come.

For an Icelander with memory problems, you certainly remember your english well! Your english seems to be more fluent than many of in here, myself included. Welcome to the forum!(Now if I could only remember why I posted this...)

yea, maybe. I jumped from being immature boy behaving like 15 year old to elderly family man with hepc in like a quantum leap. I should go and check if there is some mutation that comes with it...

Ha!  Sounds pretty normal to me--isn't that just conventional masculine behavior?  (I live with one of your kind and have observed him at very close range.)  So welcome overboard, Iceboy.  You should  feel quite at home here, as everybody has undergone some interesting sea changes as a result of this little virus.  We could think of it as devolution,  but that's way too depressing.  Perhaps it's really some higher form of adaptation?

Hey -- welcome.  I keep finding food in the cupboards that was supposed to be in the fridge.  I blame it on aging (I am 57) but who knows.

And don't worry if you can't post a new topic - just hijack one.   You can write "new topic" in the comment line or not.  Since there are so few new topics allowed daily, a lot of people do that.

In fact, I'm going to.......................Hey everyone, I made my decision.  I am going to treat.  I have labored over this decision for two months, but especially since my biopsy report came back and showed grade 1, stage 1 and I felt it gave me some "wiggle room.".  Since I am 1a, that means 48 weeks.  I will do my best to make the 48 weeks.

I had an appointment with the dentist who was going to do an implant right before the GI appointment.  I was going to tell him that I wanted to postpone the implant .  I was concerned about the bone loss I have read about on these posts being a sx of tx (plus I spent the money on a biopsy instead).  Guess what ---- he said they would not do it anyway since I have active hepc.
No elective surgery is what he said until it is in remission. So what if I don't clear, I ask, and he says remission is different.  So I asked the GI later and he said remission is zero virus.  So I guess if you never clear, no implants (of any kind, ha ha).

Now I need to figure out the best shot day.  Friday?

Love to all

I forget really important things all the time...I'm driving down a road that I drive every day and forget where I am...realizing however that I know I should know where I am therefore I must be ok and it will come to me sooner or later...I forgot what season it was once...yes what season...it was one of those beautiful spring or fall days, hard to tell which unless you really thought about it...it dawned on me eventually...My kids were in the car once when I forgot where I was, they still laugh about it.

Louise,

I'm SO sorry to read your news.  I was really hoping that this time would be it for you.  Unfortunately, my good news was very short-lived.  I just posted another update on the thread near the very bottom, titled "....AST/ALT.."

I hope you and your husband can find a way to try it again, but I know how financially straining it can be.  I don't even want to tell you how much we've spent.

It's a toss-up trying to decide which is worse....infertility or  HCV.  Having both really stinks.  You have a kindred spirit here in Ohio who understands how frustrating it all is.

Take care of yourself, Louise.  I hope that someday soon, both our prayers are answered.

Susan

I had a lot of memory loss the first 2 months of tx, found a woman's coat in my partners car and suspicioously questioned him as to where it came from (combo of riba-rage and fog)!!!???  (it was mine)... it seems to have gotten a bit better (32 wks in now) , but I still have moments, especially driving where I can't remember which way to turn.  I have to REALLY focus on things, and I have cut down on any unneeded brain-thinking (as you can see from this post!!).  I find when I really need to use some brain cells, I can rally them for short periods of time, then they go back into hibernation and rest.  I have always wanted to visit Iceland (and Alaska), they have a pretty good nightlife I hear, no?

ice---don't sweat the memory thing; i actually consider it one of the more appealing side! lol...everything from brain fog, to brain farts...i forgot why i grounded my 14 yo!  little bugger wouldn't tell me either....oh well ....what was i saying....
oh! welcome - enjoy the ride!

friole-ole!  ya! I'm glad you made your decision - do it and get it over with....i take my shot sunday nites - only cause i hate mondays anyway, why not feel crappy too!  plus, during school the kids went back on mondays and if i wanted i could have the day to myself.....i wanted to feel good on weekends b/c i'm taxi mom and spend all weekend at football games, competitions, lessons, mall, etc....
It does seem most people do the fri nite thing (hence, fri nite fight songs)  w/e: good luck - you know we're always here!

hey ice! you know if it wasn't for the sunday, monday, tuesday, wednesday, thurs, fri, & sat medicine containers - i really would not know what day it is!

I have given up on being frustrated at myself for not remembering anything. I told my family if its important and needs doing, dont leave it up to me to remember because I will forget.

I made a sandwich for lunch the other day and lost it. I found it later in some clothes I had been folding.

Iceboy, The way I cope with short term memory loss is lots and lots of post it notes!!!  They are covering my counters and art painting table where I work.  The only problem is that I have to then try to remember what notes tell me what I'm supposed to be doing on what days and then I also have a nasty habit of loosing the note I'm trying to find.  I now write notes to tell me where the next days notes are!!!.....I think?  So I even sometimes take a note with me in the car to help me remember where I'm driving to......the driving thing seems to throw me most off.  I forget a direction I'm going and have to turn around alot.  Yes, I think I had this a bit before tx but it is much more pronounced during tx now. I've been told it lets up after tx ends....until then I'm enjoying entertaining myself and my partner!
Best to you and your not alone, Scott

Friole: congratulations.  Just remember the fear of starting is much worse than actually doing the tx.....I'm sure you do great and be so thrilled to see your virus numbers diminish.  It's a wonderful feeling knowing you are helping yourself beat this before it causes havoc. Some days are lousy but lots of good ones will be ahead during your days on tx.  Good luck.
p.s. I'm a Sunday night shot person.  I didnt' want to ruin my weekend with a friday shot....little did I know that it is completely unpredictable WHEN you will feel your sides...changes every single week!...not sure the day of shot actually matters.

What are we talking about, what am I typing, what's your name again...I know it, it's right on the tip of my tongue,,,its, its,,,what were we talking about? Oh yes, yes...your memory loss.

It must affect your brain but there haven't been many studies on the affect of HCV on other organs...what were we talking about?

Carolhab ..........I am loving that term "unneeded brain thinking" and expect to make good use of it.  I actually have way too much of that unneeded brain thinking -- I am terribly analytical and always over reasoning things out.

chellski - absolutely hilarious about grounding your 14 year old and forgetting why.  Mine were in such deep doo-doo all the time i could probably think of something.  Hey -- did you catch that new reality show last night "Brat Camp?"  Actually I was watching my Pegesys video on how to give the injections, and when I took that out there was Brat Camp on the TV.  I normally don't watch those reality shows but this was cool.  It is a therapeutic camp for troubled and defiant teens (14-17) with agression and drug and mental problems. When my kids were teens I sent them to such a camp (actually the state paid for it thru a post-adoption grant). It was a grueling experience for them but at least the boys had some positive things come out of it.  There was one part where someone pooped out in the woods (actually the desert) instead of the latrine they built. They really got onto the situation and the girl fessed up.   I remember my teen daughter had a similar problem at the camp they went to with "time-of-the-month" hygiene. Anyway, I must call all my kids (now 25,26, and 28) and tell them to watch it.

Ice - probably crack me up is more better than crank me up that actually does have some drug connotations here in the states (altho crank me up is like turning up the volume). Nice job that sends you to concerts - rock or otherwise?

Talk about memory loss - I have to keep switching back to the thread to see who said what.  Dutch --- I love those sticky notes, but they always end up in places other than where they start.  They sticky their way all over.

I am thinking Friday for shot night, because I need to function at work.  But like you said, the sx are not that predictible.  Anyway Friday is SciFi night at our house and we always stay home.  The new series (Stargate, Battleship Galactica, and Stargate Atlantis) start their new seasons tomorrow night so maybe I will shoot into outerspace myself.

That Pegesys kit came with a nice pill box for the RIba (need that for sure)and a great 48-week journal to mark shot placement, etc.

Vicki, you little computer geek (you don't look like one, bty)  I love your linking ability.  When I get my flipper we will dance the penguin tango in our tuxes.

I was going to tell my family today that I could be experiencing some memory loss, but just before I did, my oldest daughter was asking me about some tickets to a concert I was supposedly going to get her. I could not remember that I was going to, at least could not remember some of the conversation I supposedly had. It got me into complete denial and threw me completely of the track. I
