methadone and cymbalta

by brendaelk, Apr 11, 2009 02:31PM
I am having terrible low back pain. Do not know if it is bursitis or fibro pain. I was wondering if anyone knows if you can take cymbalta on Methadone Maintenance? Any help would be appreciated!  Also having a strong smell in urine. Wondering about kidney problems with hep c?

Yes you can take cymbalta with methadone, but I've heard that some ppl have a hard time getting off of cymbalta.  I don't know anything about kidney problems with HepC other than they do exists sometimes.  Maybe someone else will chime in for you.  Just so you know, I really think I'm the only regular poster who takes methadone so we are in a special class.lol  good luck

I don't know about Cymbalta, but I've heard people have a hard time getting off methadone.  I knew this one guy who did it. It took him 2 years and he was scared to death he wouldn't be able to do it because of the withdrawals.

Yes, I know all about methadone, but thx for letting others know.  I was joking when I said we were in a special class.  smile

Yes Annie, thks for the warning about the methadone, but unfortunately I have been on  and off for 30 yrs. You are so very right about the withdrawals, that is why I have so much time spent on it. Scared to death of the withdrawal, but in its defense, for addicts with a long history of drug addiction it can be a lifesaver. WE are able to live a normal life with a normal job but not crave the effects of the harmful drugs. It has helped me do just that then I find out I have hepatitis C that has been dormant for at least 15 years because it has been that long since IV drug use. Please continue to warn young users it is not for them. I am having terrible pain with Fibromyalgia that goes along with hep c for some. And also mild depression on the scare of a disease that could kill me after the drug use did not!

Yep we are in a class together allright! The class for "bad choices in life for many years"  About the cymbalta, is there something to use to taper off it? I figure that if I can have this methadone monkey on my back that surely I can handle the cymbalta, what do you think Fret??

I don't know anything about cymbalta other than what I've read which is to stay away from it.  Here's a link, if you find out how it works, then you can figure something out.  Just keep in mind that some of these new drugs will knock you for a loop.lol  Maybe someone else can tell you their experience on cymbalta without the methadone and you can improvise accordingly.  good luck
