methadone for hep c symptoms

I was diagnosed w/ hep cin1991. Interferon/ ribavirin in1999,unsucsesfully, almost killed me. No symptoms before, treatment but fully symptomatic since, fatigue, bone, muscle, joint aches, chills, sweats, all of it . The hospital gave me methadone after being admitted with siezures and it works wel lon my symptoms. Is this this unusual,Legal? The symptoms of hep c are just like drug withdrawal. Is anyone slse using methadone for  hep c symptoms?

No, none of my doctors would ever give me anything like that to help. Sometimes I wish they did LOL.     Good Luck

Methadone is a very strong pain killer. Maybe that is why you feel the symtoms (symptoms) anymore.

Methadone is being used legally in the US. All of the pain specialists use it. It is highly addictive and if you must come off of it, you have to wean off slowly with the guidance of a pain specialist. It is highly affective for people who cannot take other opiates and it is relatively inexpensive.

methadone is gd for pain but it doesnt last 24 hrs like they say,if it lasted longer and we didnt get a tolerance it would b gr8 but i didnt like it much.i was on methadone yrs ago and i hav hep c no hep c symptoms then i got on the methadone and i got all these symptoms which i thought was hep c but it wasnt. on tx now but just to let u no how i felt on methadone was really tired most of the time, sweaty, chills, moody, very achey (achy) etc especially after u get tolerance to it. so just wondering some of your symptoms now could b the methadone.once i came off methadone i felt ok,took ages but.
how long were u off tx b4 goin on the methadone?
i hope my tx symptoms go away after tx,since i been on tx all symptoms r shocking,my liver aches more than ever and so sore etc.
i live in australia and over here they perscribe methadone for many reasons not just drug withdrawel so id say it same over there.
iv heard a few people say they still hav symptoms from tx ages after but some dont so i dont know, for your sake i hope tx hasnt made u worse.
my brain is so foggy on tx cant wait to feel normal, cant concentrate properly, hope i made sense.

No this is not a wise move at all - methadone while quite effective a pain killer is one of the most addictive substances you can find.

Certainly there is another less addictive medication that can be used for pain.  No pain should be that severe post tx and it's certainly not like withdrawl (withdrawal) of opiates in any way.

Please find something else if it's not already too late or you will have to wean down and then go cold turkey from this and it will be much more difficult than the interferon!

Be careful with that stuff, it kills pain but is so addictive you may wish to try something else.

I think it's three days that it takes only.  Seriously investigate that fact because it sounds about right.

I have been on a very low dosage of methadone for 2 years.  I have a protruding disc that rubs against my nerve in my lower lumbar 4 and 5.  My dosage is only 5m 2x daily.  This was prior to my HepC.  I have my back doctor/pain management, blood doctor, liver doctor and family doctor, none of which have suggested that I do not take the meth along with my HepC meds.  I never had any side effects on my meth, just no buring down my leg.  However, the side effects to my HepC meds are horrible but, are no different than all the others I have read..

Meth is also used to take you off other drugs, but used in liquid form and very little.

Weird to start you off with methadone but the symptoms you speak of getting after the treatment are not at all uncommon.

Methadone is like any other pain killer and should be treated as such...I've been on all of them and found it to be the best so far.

You really should see a pain doc to stay on it or any "heavy" pain killer such as Methadone though...you may have to anyhow.

Get medical facts about medicines from your doctor or medical websites, not forums.  We are not doctors and I don't agree with many of the statements said about medicines and such.

Nothing personal but it is also a very individual as to how a medication affects you and you should have a doc to discuss this with.

These forums are very helpful for finding out info such as if others have had the same reaction to the treatment as you did...pain and such.  Some have, some haven't...docs aren't so good with this type of stuff though.

These forums are also very helpful for suggestions on how to handle things as far as with employers, family, friends and how to handle feelings you are having with HepC.
