milk thistle and folic acid

Guess I need to take matters into my own hands until I can get professional help. I was told that milk thistle is good for your liver and also folic acid. Anyone know anything about this and if so... how much should you take? I haven't the mindset to go surfing the net right now...

My results came in and the strand of Hepatitis C I have is 2b. He is very confident it can be treated in 6 months of treatment. My enzymes are still elevated but going down (GGT was 570 now 200). We discussed starting the treatment in October, due to the side effects. If anyone has spent a summer in South Louisiana, you understand why.
I was surprised at how receptive and interested he was when I told him, I am taking Milk Thistle for my Liver and plan to start Gluconutrients. He wants to check my blood in August and again in October for changes. My plans are to take Maximum Milk Thistle and Glycomannon for the glyconutrients. If in October, there is enough significant evidence of changes in my blood work to convince me (and my Dr.), I will probably postpone the treatment to give the natural treatment a little more time. If not I will start treatment in October. I will post an update, when I get the results in August and October. I am not promoting glyconutrients, I feel as long as I do not jeopardize my health and stay under my doctors watchful eye, it is worth a shot. Thanks, Rick.

Milk thistle would be best taken in tandem with Phosphatidylcholine.  You can get the thistle with it already in it, but it is expensive that way.  You'd take 3 400mg caps of Milk Thistle 3 x's a day on an empty stomach.  Thymus and adrenal glandulars would be beneficial as this virus takes its toll on the immune system.  Selenium is also good.  Folic acid is also good.  Never take more than 800 mcg a day.  B12 is beneficial.  Liquid minerals are excellent.  Just a squirt in water works wonders.

Stay away from any multi with iron in it.  Livers with HCV and iron don't go together that well.  It's easy to get iron overload, and you get enough in plant matter with meals.  Check your ferritin levels for this.  If your doc hasn't given you a ferritin test, ask him to include it in the next round.

Please get bloodwork done often and learn what everything means if you are going to try to self treat.  Seeing a naturopath is an excellent choice until you're ready for tx.  Some people do very well with herbs, some still progress and get worse.  You must watch your BW.

Two great sites if you are going natural are www.hepatitiscfree.com and http://www.dr-zhang.com/.

Best of luck!
