mouth sores and open thread
Canker sores... dang they hurt. Its like the "last straw", I feel like **** and now my face hurts... I have four in my lower lip today, plus I wear a night guard that irritates them. Desperate times call for desparate measures. So today, I pulled my lip open, and have spread a small amount of neosporin plus pain relief all over the inside of bottom lip several times. The good news, its tasteless, it doesn't burn AT ALL, which every thing else seems to, and by golly it buys you a couple of hours of relief, or until the next jug of water. I have no idea if it will make them heal faster, but it has made my day much more pleasant. I will keep you posted if they seem to go away faster..gonna go do a vitie and grape juice...
Ah I went by my favorite Mexican restaurant in the world last night and wanted a Burrito so bad I can still taste it however I would have wanted to COVER it in redhot sauce...and there is NO WAY my tongue could handle it so I had to drive by...
For me, this is one of the worst parts of the whole tx experience - I swear to GOD if it wasn't for bread, bagels and cereal I'd have starved to death by now but I can't eat anything FUN anymore.
I posted about the Maalox/Benedryl - got it from Dr. Jacobson's office. They told me to put some on a qtip and put it straight on the sores - then I take whatever is remainning in the cap and swish it.
It's just equal parts of each and it does seem to help a lot and I tried EVERY over the counter thing and NOTHING worked.
Jim had advice on some medication...which I forgot what he said but I will have to ask again if they come back worse.

Not gonna offer up my suggestion Fish, could get me in trouble ya know? But it would boost your protien intake, and it'd be a nice way to make up for chasing your hubby around with that pitchfork!
Anywaym, the real reason for my post is I've been meaning to take a sec to say what an asset your are to this forum. You bring inteligence, wit, compassion, and most importantly you've been a balanced voice of reason in many a skirmish. have you tried nygirl's remedy -- isn't it maalox and baby benedryl? Dang - wish I kept that thread maybe that's not it. Do not try it - look for ny's old thread.

Just started procrit thursday Beagle, hmg has been yo yo'in in the 9's bracket for about 3 weeks or so. Did 40,000 u/ml procrit so here we go for some relief from the anemia.

Fishdoc, I used the over the counter PEROXYL by Colgate and it worked for me, I also realized the more water I drank the less sores I got. Hope this helps.

Mornin fish, I've been usin triple anti biotic topical ointment. I have a habit since startin tx of bitin me lip when eatin cheeseburgers , taco salads, steaks an all. It works fer the dyce fish. If I could slow down at the feed trough it would help but I was raised in a big family an ya had ta get it when it was there!!

I had another break out of those little suckers. I think this is the 4th. or 5th. time now since treatment started. I took shot 16 of 48 friday night.
I started to break out mid week where usally I broke out after the shot. Sure does slow me down on the spicy and crunchy food.
Tommorrow, I will follow up on some advice found here for relief. Benedryl and maalox mixed toghether not sure on the particulars but I would think you swish it and spit it out.
Talk to a pharmachist about it and he said Dr's. have been telling patients about it for years. He says it coats the mouth real good. Well, I will see mannana, If it works maybe I will have some mexican food. Best wishes to all

Thanks for asking, i feel alot better now that I had my 3rd shot of procrit, I started back to work after a month and a half off thats kicking my butt starting out with all new kiddos, they have been keeping an eye on my blood pressure, I really dont want to start another pill, so ijust keep telling him once tx is through itll go back down, i only have 2 months left, i just want it over, I love grapejuice thats my favorite kind , im glad to hear it has some healing properties,I just always have to remember to drink it threw a straw...sorry your having to hurt this weekend....
Fish,,,I feel for ya! I definitely don't miss the canker sores as I also got them and sometimes as many as 5 at a time. I tried different things but they always cleared on their own and sure did make eating hard. I just never found one good all cure and I'm sure the meds play such a big part in having our system out of whack! Sorry to hear that you are going through it!
somebody said grape juice and vit b helped the mouth sores, so I was good for a while, and it did seem to help. Of course, grape juice turns the "forbidden topic" green... which can be disconcerting!!! So how you doin?
