It sounds as if your clinic does not test for hepatitis virus on intake. Recent studies have shown that 78% of methadone patients, after using for 6 months, will be antibody positive for hepatitis C. Even if you did not share the actual needle and syringe, the virus may be transmitted through sharing water and/or cotton. Please get tested. And find out if your clinic is part of the vaccine study that SAMHSA is doing. They offer hep A & B vaccine to patients, for free.

I don’t know much about Methadone Clinics but apparently they do blood work. Can they check for Hep.C?

It can mean something is going on with liver. Elevated liver enzymes can be a result of a number of things including alcohol use, some drugs including over the counter meds, viral hepatitis, etc.

If you’re methadone is from previous IV drug use, and you shared needles, it’d be a very good idea to be tested for Hepatitis B and C… I believe a majority of those that shared works are infected.

A hepatitis screening is a blood test that checks to see if you’ve developed antibodies to one of the viruses; if the antibody result is reactive/positive, then further testing is ordered for confirmation.

Good luck and let us know how things turn out—
