my mom

My mom was diagnosed with hepatitis c about 17 yrs. ago. She had contracted it when she delivered my sister in 1974. She needed a blood transfusion and had recieved bad blood. She has not been on any medication for it and has been having her enzymes checked periodically. She has been very sick for the pastmonth or so and has had to receive blood due to low red blood cell counts. She has had tests that show no signs of internal bleeding. But looks very pale, weak, hots and colds. Again she is not on that medicine that seems to lower the blood cell count but has all those symptoms. If any one out there can help or has ay info on why this may be happening to her,Iwould really appreciate it. Thankyou

Your Mom definitely needs to see a good Hepatologist and get a biopsy.  She needs to know if there is any damage to her liver and if the health issues she is going thru currently are related to her HepC.  Also, she needs to do these things soon.  If her current doctor hasn't recommended a biopsy of her liver or sent her to a specialist, then she may consider giving him/her the boot.  If someone has HepC they really need to see a heptologist or at least a GI who specializes in the treatment of HepC.  good luck

Thankyou for all of your comments. I have been reading all of your posts and Iam very scared for my mom. I have talked with her about a liver biospy and I think I have gotton through to her but I think that she is scared. You know out of sight, out of mind. And now she is having problems with her red blood cell count being very low and I know that its got to be related.Thankyou all very much it really helps to talk with people who understand. Annhoney 123 if you don't mind me asking how long ago were you diagonosed? My mom says back then they didn't know much about hep c and basicly she almost died then. It took her 2yrs to feel better and the doctors said just keep having your enzyme level checked and thats all she ever did.
