the vaccine for hep a and b will give you NO protection from hep c. Also, there is not a vaccine for hep c. maybe some day.
You have to ask for the hep panel while you are at the clinic. Hep B is considered a Std. Hep C is not.
hey steven, definitely gonna do what you guys told me about the antibodies does a normal std clinic do hepatitis along with the syphilis, ghonorea, and all the other ones, or do i have to specifically ask for it? it sucks cause the nearest one i go to only does the std panel on wednesday when i have class.
When you go to the clinic, ask them to check your HepB antibodies level. It could go down over time. Check it to be sure your immunity is on good standing. Good luck.
thanks for getting back to me. im gonna go get checked out tommorow for all types tommorow. hopefully i didnt catch anything. this was a one time experience, but man i hope i didnt get anything. ill ask my parents about that hep a/b booster shot
I just got my series of three twinrix shots (i.e. hep A+B combo vaccine), and the nurse told me it will impart immunity for hep B for at least 10 years, and probably more. She said it's possible I might even be protected for life. Apparently doctors are finding out the vaccine might last much longer than they had originally thought 10-15 years ago. So my guess is that you have been protected since '96 and still are protected for hep A and B. As far as sexual transimission of hep C is concerned, it can happen, but it's rare. There are many married couples here that have been having unprotected sex for 20-30 (or more) years and have not given it to their partners. Studies also suggest sexual transmission is very rare. On the other hand I know someone that was probably infected by hep C sexually - welcome to the magic 8 ball world of hep C. Obviously if you need to resolve your fears, just go to the doctor and have yourself checked out. Maybe get a twinrix (hepA/B) booster shot too just to put your mind at ease.
