Hi I had the same problem and was given an anti nausea prescription then I started taking the pills with milk and that seemed to help a lot.
I wish you all the best

I take my pills with a meal. I eat some, swallow a pill with some liquid, then eat some more. So far it's worked for me.

How about taking them with gingerale or ginger tea, something that's naturally soothing for your stomach?

I did SOC but I experienced the same problem at times. I could usually tell when I was going to problems with gagging while taking my meds. Lord knows I had to “recycle” a few of them.
I know this is going to sound silly but it worked for me.
I noticed the more I thought about taking them, the harder it was to swallow them.
So, I laid my meds out beside a glass of water. I would occupy my mind with TV, Computer, etc.
When relaxed, I would quickly take some of them before I had time to think about it. It worked for me but it may not work for you (or anyone else).
Give it a try, who knows? It may work for you.

I agree with all of the above and you really need to get in touch with your doctor and get some help to control the gagging and nausea. Can you drink other liquids without getting nauseous? I am asking because one of the first things that happened to me was that plain water in any temperature made me really nauseous. I never had a problem before and drank water all the time but during tx I had to switch to iced tea. Even a sip of water would have me retching. I knew we were supposed to drink a lot of water when treating but there was no way. I drank decaf Lipton because of insomnia issues. Best of luck to you and LookingForward12! Hang in there.

Take the pills with milk. I took both the riba and telap with "whole" milk. That was what I used instead of food with fat. It helped take the bitterness of the pillls away.

Oh...and I figured out I do better with cold water than room temperature water.

I totally agree with pooh on this one...you do not need to be missing ANY of your med doses at this early stage in tx. I am pretty sure someone has posted that it takes something like four weeks for the ribavarin to build up in our systems.
I have a difficult time getting my pills down too. I put them in a little cup and down them one at a time with an almost relentless determination. I gag as well....but what I hate worse is the little lump feeling in my throat after I have managed to choke them down.
My side effects change from day to day. I think I have managed to get o e thing under co trol and something else rears its ugly little head. Last. Isn't was the first night that I was overwhelmed by chills and shaking. No fever, thank goodness, but bad enough for me to get off the sofa and go wrap myself up in bed with a hot water bottle. And my rash is starting to spread - whoopie.
For nausea, I started with an OTC medication suggested to me. From that to phenergan....which worked for a couple of days....and now I am on compazine. Ah well....it's a journey for sure. Talk to your doctor ASAP and get something that will work for you. The medication schedule is very important.
Wishing you the best...hang in there. Keep it in perspective. It won't last forever. Rant when you need to.....and be well in the end.

I would discuss this with your doctor ASAP and get a prescription for the nausea. The meds (all three of them) can cause nausea so nauasea is pretty common but can usually be controlled with a prescription. The vomiting is even more of a concern because of the possibility of vomiting up the pills and/or missing doses. Don't count on it just passing on its own.

There could be a few other little tricks that help with the nausea too (ginger candy, taking the pills with ice cream or a smoothie, or something else) but you probably need the prescription med to get it under control and not lose anymore doses of meds.

I know you are on triple med treatment and it must be with Victrelis as it appears you are taking only 2 meds right now (Peg. and Riba) so are on the lead in and will start Vic in a week or two . That is even more reason to get the gagging and vomiting under control before you start Vic.

You are very early in treatment so it is quite important to get all of your med doses in. Riba does have a long half life, but the med concentration in your blood stream is still building in your system. I don't think it is at full peak concentration yet (I don't have the stats right in front of me, but I know the half life is long and it takes a while to build up the concentration).

I am not the expert here so I am not sure if missing Riba doses early in treatment will affect your outcome. Maybe someone else knows that answer.

Getting all of your pills in and at the correct times will be extremely important when you start Vic because the protease inhibitors (Inc. and Vic) have short half lives. If you miss doses (or are late in taking them) you may make it possible for mutant strains of the virus to build up resistance to the medication. This could, indeed, affect the outcome of treatment.

If I were you I would call the doc today and get a prescription for an anti-nausea med. You can also try other remedies like smoothies or ginger candies in addition to the anti-nausea meds, but I think you need to get this under control ASAP so you can get the best outcome from your treatment.

Good luck and I hope you feel better soon.
