new tx update

Hi all -- back again about to start sofosbuvir+ribavirin+peg-interferon, my fifth attempt to slay the dragon.

The first four were tx failures.  The first was non-peg + RBV.  Second was peg+RBV.  Third was daily infergen+RBV (15 months of that was tough.)  All three of these got me to quant 0 and qual +. The last failure was 2 years ago with Boceprevir+peg+RBV.  On that regimen my viral load dipped several orders of magnitude before climbing again.  This was a resistant strain not sufficiently knocked down during the lead in. I ended up in the hospital with pancreatitis, severe anemia, and cardiac changes, and stopped the meds early.

Long journey to get to here.  I've been posting here a decade at least, perhaps as long as 14 or 15 years.  I'm 56yo, GT1a, vl aound 17M, well compensated cirrhosis.  Also, I'm hopeful to get to SVR before de-compensating.

Well wishes to everyone here.

Cheers,
--Paul

2014 seems like it will be a great year to kill the Hep C dragon.  Hope that this new tx works for you.  I've had 2 treatments fail me and am hoping for a new tx option when I see my hepa dr in May.

Thanks all, for the encouraging word.  I'm looking forward to the other side already.

48weeks:  No, the plan is for 12 weeks.  I think that is SOC for this cocktail.

desrt:  I've not been typed at IL28B.  Mainly because it would not alter treatment decisions.  I'm guessing I'm heterozygous, due to past treatment failures (partial responder -- I get to quant 0, but remain positive on the qual test.)

So many folks like yourself have already been through sooo much trying to fight HCV (slay the dragon). I hope that the addition of Sovaldi will be the dragon slayer that you need! Best of Luck that you reach SVR and this round of treatment is tolerable! Jo
