I did 2 different 52 week treatments with about a year in between. First one was copegus pills with 1 shot a week of some pega something the second was copegus pills with a shot a day of something diff. I don't remember exact names but can look them up. HCV came back within a couple of months both times.
toleration- I am 6ft 1 210 lbs and worked out almost every day plus working full time as a tech with the phone co. I thought I could handle the meds but I felt so week I could not work or do much of anything. I am currently not on any meds and feel fairly good again but wish there was something to stop the virus from destroying my liver.
I am genotype 1a with stage 4 liver ( compensated )

Cirrhosis Diet
Similar to people without cirrhosis, people with cirrhosis should limit their intake of fats and eat lots of fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and other heart-healthy foods. However, some diet changes that are unique to those with cirrhosis include limiting salt, eating more calories and protein, and eliminating alcohol.

Sounds like we had similar experiences. I also put a plug in the jug in 2003; genotype 1 with stage 3-4, transitional to cirrhosis.
I treated once, then relapsed. The second time, I treated for an extended period and was successful.
Have you treated multiple times as well? How well did you tolerate therapy; and what meds did you use in your attempt(s)?

thanks for the info Bill. I am new to this forum but have gone through the ringer with the hcv. I quit drinking alcohol when diagnosed in2003 and have tried to eat healthier. my liver is currently compensated so I guess I am pretty lucky.
I go back to Dr. in Jan. hoping for new med. I just can't help but to think that while I wait for new med's my liver will give out.
I will just try to stay positive and enjoy each day.

Hi there,
There are no foods or diet specific to HCV; if you have compensated liver disease, you should be able to eat pretty much anything you enjoy; within obvious limits. If your cirrhosis is decompensated, e.g. ascites, encephalopathy, bleeds, then limiting red meats while maintaining adequate protein intake with legumes, white meat chicken, fish, soy products and the like is preferable. Additionally, your doctor might limit your sodium intake as well.
We all benefit from healthy eating; as a suggestion, the American Heart Association provides good dietary guidelines; a quick internet search will give you some good ideas.
