It's not legal in Calif. so I went to Nevada for a treatment and the doctor said my liver is fine and wanted to put me on anti aging medicine. I never went back. I heard it's good, but never met anyone who tried it.

In the latest edition of Prescription for Nutritional Healing book under hepatitis C. They talk about a clinic in Chula Vista that electrofies the blood. Check it out. And best wishes. Don't be ruled by fear. Your doctor is right. In a few more years there will be better treatments.

Most of us in here have geno 1 (i have both geno 1A and also 1B) it's the most common of them all.

The ONLY cure there is available currently is the current combo of Interferon and ribavirin. Nothing else will give you a cure.

Save money on things that you read about on the internet and advertisements and stuff.  I don't know about what he's doing but I'd imagine he has tons of money to waste on things.

Although I have to admit I'd LOVE some ANTI-AGING stuff that Grandma was talking about!   :)

Best of luck

Ozone therapy is a scam, or at least it certainly won't cure you (and it'll cost you plenty). The Chili Pepper guy has plenty of money to burn, but he won't get rid of his HCV that way.

As far having type 1a and "nothing can be done for you"? That's nonsense if your doctor told you that, type 1's can and are treated successfully with interferon and ribavirin therapy all the time. It's true the treatment is usually a tough experience that lasts a whole year and is only about 50% effective, and it's not suitable for everyone...but to say "nothing can be done" is just not true (unless you happen to be intolerant to interferon and/or riba for some legitimate medical reason). Have you had a liver biopsy yet? You want to find out how much damage your liver has in order to estimate how urgent getting treatment now would be (or not). There are newer drugs currently under development that will hopefully be available in 2-4 years. With any luck these drugs may shorten therapy duration while simultaneously increasing its effectiveness well beyond 50%.

You mention something about your blood sugar scaring you. If you think you have diabetes, I'd really have that looked into and get down to properly managing it ASAP. That's nothing to fool around with, do you have a good doctor or medical team to help you out with all these serious issues? Remember, the patient is really the final authority and coordinator of his/her own healthcare. You have to take the reigns, educate yourself, keep careful records, ask questions and proactively manage your healthcare for your own benefit. Unless you have a well informed advocate or someone else vigorously looking after your interests, you've got to do it!

Take care, and best of luck with your healthcare.

I agree with mremeet. The fact that the doctor told you that to me is a sign for you to get a second opinion. Unless there is a specific reason medically that bars you from the use of the drugs, he is wrong to tell you "nothing can be done"
I'd also add that any doctor who would state such a thing mut know very little about Hep C and it's treatments!

There are lots of people in the US with genotype 1a and lots of them clear the virus. About 30,000 people succesfully treat this virus each year, most of them in the US have genotype 1.

Hi,first off the only thing that will cure your HepC at the moment is the standard Peginterferon and Riba.Anything else that claims to is a crock. If you decide not to treat there are some things you can do to help minimise the damage being done.I'm also in britland and what your Doc is telling you is flat out wrong everyone infected in the UK has the right to treatment regardless of genotype, liver condition or anything else (I'm not of course talking about people who can't treat for medical reasons).I have recently completed treatment and achieved SVR,Geno 1,infected in the sixties, borderline cirrhosis so you also have a very good chance (50%).The first thing you need to know is the condition of your liver with a biopsy if there is little or no damage watchful waiting maybe a option and then treatment with the new drugs that are 3-5 years away.I'm guessing you need to be treated before then. The UK medical people include amongst them people who will try and fob you off for budgetary reasons,I say again you have a legal right to be treated. Here are a couple of links which may be helpful to you, please ask if you have more questions:

'a clinic in Chula Vista that electrofies the blood' Must be a variation on the time-tested 'blood boiling'.  Do they electify the blood when it's in you?

See a liver specialist (hepatologist) and at the same time research the VX-950 trials. In as little as 12 weeks we will have a preliminary look at how well people who people who finished the first trial are doing. If you don't have significant liver damage it may be worth the wait before making any decisions. Your doctor is correct in that you have "the most untreatable strain". About 40-60% chance of being cured using current drugs. Hopefully the newer treatments will up those odds.

As jmjm530 says it is worth researching vx950, they are about to start selecting for Phase 3 in Europe and you may be a candidate. If you post your location I may be able to point you towards a hospital who are taking part. The trouble is it's probably towards the end of 2008 it'll be OK'ed in the states and then at least another year for the UK to OK it for general use.

I asked a question about Ozone Therapy and hepatisresearcher who posts on this board from time to time posted the following message:

hepatitisresearcher said:

"The toxicity of ozone makes this approach very problematic.

here is one citation from the EPA

Further, the EPA warns against exposure to ozone, reporting that high levels of O3 are toxic to humans, and non-toxic levels are unable to remove bacteria, viruses, or fungi in any meaningful way."

When I had my carpet cleaning business we also would do fire and water damage restoration.  We would often use an ozone machine to get rid of the smoke odor.  Noone could be in the room while the machine was running and the room would need to be aired out completely after the treatment. It would ruin things like the elastic in underwear, anything plastic would be effected, etc, etc.

Just like cancer can't live in an environment with a PH greater than about 8, the body can't live in that environment either.

All these things need to be taken with a grain of salt and lots and lots of research.
