peginterferon, and rivavirin causing kidney problems

my husbands doctor says his kidney can't hurt from this medication, do you know anything more about it?

i don't believe so, at least i haven't heard about this connection.  i know many of us get dehydrated from this tx so it's important to stay hydrated ALL THE TIME.

I think the recent publicity about singer Natalie Cole has caused people to wonder if the Hep C treatment damages the kidneys.  Just last week it was announced again that Natalie Cole now requires a kidney transplant and that is on the heels of her doing Hep C treatment.  The frustrating thing is that Ms. Cole does not say what has caused her kidney problems and that lack of information has caused people to assume it was the treatment.

As lalapple said, I also don't believe treatment causes harm to the kidneys but it is very important to drink lots of water while on treatment to keep the meds moving out of the body and to stay hydrated.

When I was on tx I noticed my kidney's at certain times, but it wasn't a pain.  To me it was a feeling that I could feel the SOC was back there attacking the virus, and it happened to be a tender area.  I didn't take it to be something that concerned me, maybe it's pain to your husband, but I looked at it as the meds doing what they were supposed to do.  Personally I don't know if a person can actually get pain in the kidney area, just trying to shed some light, good luck

and older to determine whether they respond differently than younger subjects. Adverse reactions
related to alfa interferons, such as CNS, cardiac, and systemic (eg, viral-like) effects, may be
more severe in the elderly. Exercise caution when using peginterferon alfa-2a in this population.
This drug is excreted by the kidney. The risk of toxic reactions may be greater in patients with
impaired renal function. Because elderly patients are more likely to have decreased renal func-
tion, take care in dose selection, monitoring renal function as clinically appropiate.

This drug is excreted by the kidney....this is a fact....this is why it is not recomeened to take advil because advil is hard onthe liver....tynenol is harder on the liver....but while on tx its better to use tyneol to lessen kidney damage....if you google this you will see....BTW.....I do not post things without doing some research first
