possible careers for chronic hepatitis c

if i decide to change careers, do they test for hepatitis c especially if it is in a medical field?  will i be required to tell my new employer?  will i have to tell them when i give them my insurance information.  What i am asking do i ever have to tell to anyone besides my doctors.  I live in a small town of very small minded people.

Dr. Dieterich posted to you on June 27th which I have copied for you in case you did not see it.  You do not have to disclose the fact you have hepc to a new employer.  It may have some impact regarding health insurance and coverage but you do not have to tell anyone otherwise.

Hepatitis C testing is not done on healthcare workers, but hepatitis B testing is to ensure that we are all vaccinated or have antibodies. Because of the ADA( Americans with Disabilities Act) no one can prevent you from practicing your profession if you have an infection unless you are giving to your patients. One of the risks for acquiring HCV is from needlesticks as a healthcare worker so a lot of us are infected and employers cant ask about it unless there is an epidemic caused by you! However that being said if you have HCV you should definitely get evaluated and treated! Good luck
