postponing pegasys injection

postponing pegasys injection

Next weekened is going to be a long one and I'm gonna need all my strength.

I usually do peg Friday night but I'm thinking of postponing it until Monday.

Would that interfere with progress now that I'm UND?

Any suggestions?

I think you just got to und recently after about 18 weeks or so? If it were me and I aboslutely could not do the Peg on schedule for a very big significant reason not related to a holiday weekend event, I think I might call the doc and explain the situation.  In doing so I might suggest to him that I do the Peg two days sooner (wednesday), rather than 2 days late (monday).  That way, I'd keep up the peg, feel somewhat better by the big significant one-time weekend event and end up with my going-forward shot day as Wednesday.  Getting to und at week 18 was a hard-fought battle, it would be tough for me to relent right after a significant milestone.  But, I laugh at peg.

"I might suggest to him that I do the Peg two days sooner (wednesday), rather than 2 days late (monday)."

That's a good idea.

"That way, I'd keep up the peg, feel somewhat better by the big significant one-time weekend event and end up with my going-forward shot day as Wednesday."

So switch to Wednesday for the rest of TX?

"Getting to und at week 18 was a hard-fought battle, it would be tough for me to relent right after a significant milestone."

That's what I'm afraid of.  (next) Sunday's gonna be nuts coz I'm moving . . . not sure what to do . . .

Thanks for the advice,

I'm kind of fixated on my own med schedule and would be reluctant to take the Peg more than a week apart in any week - that's just me.  And, if I moved to a less convienint day (wednesday), I'm a Friday shooter, I'd stick it out on wednesdays but I have a lot fewer weeks left than you do.  If you did a wednesday, maybe the following week a thursday, maybe the following week a friday. Ask the doc?

My doc said it shouldn't hurt to change 1 day per week.  If you are going to do it anyway,  maybe do tonights shot tommorow, that way you will be skipping 2 days instead of 3.  Then gradually get back to your preferred day by going 1 week at a time.

Another good idea!

I'm so paranoid right now about staying UND, although the report I got yesterday saying <10 was from April 26 labs. (week 18)

I may try to change the date the movers are scheduled but that's probably gonna be far more complicated than switching injection nights!  *LOL*

Thanks for feedback.

ya know, I used to be able to predict my sx but to tell the truth, they are so erratic now that I can't tell anymore.  Fridays used to be my best day and today I couldn't drag myself off the couch.

Maybe it's coz I have an ear infection.  i dunno.  I DO know this move is going to take major energy and based on the past few months experience, I know I'm gonna crash either DURING or immediately AFTER.

Having to pace yourself like this stinks, but better to try and plan ahead, i guess.

I had asked about doing the same thing, during the time I was home on leave, hoping I would have my sx during week, while Mike was working and could spend the weekends together, and I was advised if going to move it, count back..   So thursday this week..  ( too late for that now ) and then next week on weds.    and if you want to get it back to friday, will have to continue that backwards a day each week till you get there.  Better than going over 7 days for a shot.  You may have  a better chance of SVR all the way thru that way.

NOT a good idea to go more than seven days between Peg shots unless a medical necessity such as a WBC or Platelet issue that cannot be resolved with helper drugs, etc.

What you propose could in theory cause a viral breakthrough, assuming you still need more weeks of Peg to reach non-detectible, something none of us know in advance. If you want to shorten the time between shots, no problem as long as your doctor is onboard, just don't space the Peg shots out more than seven days. As a side note, Peg leaves your system a lot faster than ribavirin -- not to mention it's function in the viral suppression/eradication process.

Be well,

Best of Luck with the move.  One of the most stressful things a person can do in life.  But you can do it!  Git er done!

My PA just told me to NEVER take Pegasys earlier, always a day later.  She stressed NEVER EVER earlier.  Don't know why, but all I can do is relay the message.  Call the commpany and ask.

Of course listen to your PA, and indeed there may be a reason your PA said that to you. But for me, if I were changing shot day, I'd work backwards (shortening the time between shots) rather than forwards (lengthing the time between shots). As to the safety issue beyond the anecdotal accounts here of people shortening the week, we have the double-dosing studies as well as a newer study someone posted here recently where I believe Peg was injected every five? days (instead of 7) for a better chance of SVR. At Wyn's point in treatment, the object is to keep killing any virus remaining under the radar and not give it any chance to start replicating again. That's why it's important to have an optimal dose of Peg in the system at all times.

Thanks so much for the advice.

That settles it.

I'm getting on the phone with the movers and see if I can change the date to either Thursday or Friday.

Of course, I'd forgotten all about the peg (not to mention (neupogen)when I scheduled moving.  DUH!!!

And everyone is so RIGHT about not interfering with UND.

Jim - reached it a month ago.  BTW - I had the test you recommended today, the Labcorp NGI < 2.  I talked my Dr. into it after showing him your post.  I guess he didn't realize it was available and when I brought it to his attention he said, "Go for it."

I'll let you know the results.  Thanks again,

Just re-read your post and it seems like you already skipped last night shot. If it were me, I'd take your Friday night shot right now -- not wait until tonight. You've invested much to much into this to start spacing out the Peg if not a medical necessity. As to the move, maybe higher an extra mover or two, or someone with some organizational skills who can supervise things while you sit on a chair.

After posting concerns about switching shot night, I decided to change the moving day so it won't interfere with the injections.

I guess I'm still in denial about the extent of SX or I would have realized there was a conflict when I made the original appointment!

Thanks all for helping me make the decision.

isn't that the damn way though?  I used to start feeling pretty human again by Wed night, sometimes Wed afternoon.  Now that I'm doing the 40k epogen 2x per week I just hurt all week.  I am hurting so bad right now and I haven't even GIVEN MYSELF EITHER of today's two shots, the pegasys and the epogen.  More fun to come.  Sometimes I just want to scream. I'm so sorry you're having to move in the middle of this.  If I lived near you I'd come help - or at least send the kid over ;)

Thanks for your kind offer and if I were still going through the move I just MIGHT ask for help!  *LOL*

But, if you check the post date, this one is from 6 months ago!  And I'm STILL not finished moving in, winterizing the cottage, dealing with an ancient 80 amp electrical system that regularly blows fuses several times per week and i'm in the country and I can't get to the basement without going OUTSIDE and stumbling down a hill with the flashlight inevitably blinking on and off . . . .

I'll spare you the rest of the gruesome details.

Can you tell I'm a city girl?

Oh well, it sure keeps me distracted from the TX.  :)
