pregnant and hep
ok, im pretty sure i have hepatitis C, my boyfriend has it hes had it for awhile but we just found out about it a few months ago hes had it long enough for his liver levels to be sky rocketed, back in the summer i was bad off on drugs and wanted to feel more and tried a needle after him (stupid i know), done it more than once actually , so yea im pretty sure i have it as well, but i was just wondering hes wanting to have a baby together and im worried bc ive heard that if the mother has hep then the baby will contract the disease... im pretty sure its true but i was just curious if anyone with hep has had a child and it not contract the disease?

Alot of us in here got it via drugs so believe me nobody is trying to make you feel like a bad person - instead we are trying to help you not make the same mistakes we have made in the past.
Until you and your boyfriend get 100% past drug use and jail and all of these things it would be not so smart to have a baby. It's hard enough for people who have their act 1000% together (believe me I was more in your shoes and it was very VERY difficult and still is 20 years later raising my kids alone now).
Get clean. Get tested. Then later on see about a baby but certainly not right now.
(I was positive without knowing when I had both of my kids but both of them were negative thankfully). It's NOT easy and it is pretty much FOREVER.....they don't stay little babies for long and they get much MUCh more expensive and harder to raise. Believe me.

Everybody does make mistakes. That's how we live and learn. But when it comes to shooting drugs and hepc all it takes is ONE mistake and the consequences can impact on your life for many many years. I think that's the point Chemister was trying to make, not that you were a bad person.
Hope further testing shows you are not infected.

just an update i went n got tested and they said my liver levels were normal but that i still needed to get the actual test done instead of just my levels but its a good sign right. im sorry if i was crabby in the other post i apologize but that guy made me feel like a bad person everyone makes mistakes and im not a druggie anymore i have been clean for awhile now. but thanks u guys for replying to my question... : )

So, you stopped using when he went to jail- and was then diagnosed. But you used needles together before then from what you stated.
So, how then did Pilgrim obviously not read what you said?
The percentage chance of your child being born with this disease is low as Marcia says. She has great advice- I know that first hand because we became friends when our daughters both showed positive anti-bodies. Their outcome was different from ours. Believe me, we shared tears going through it. To this day I am thankful for her friendship going through it.
I have had HCV for anywhere from 40 years to 30 years depending my exposure.
I was diagnosed 2 years ago. I am 47 years old. My daughter is 20. She was born with HCV.
If you are seriously worried about passing this disease on, get tested. If positive, treat, and try for a cure. The chance of your child being born with this disease is low, like Marcia says, but 6% is still 6%

Am I sorry I passed this virus onto my kid? Oh, Heck yeah, more than I can ever say. Would it have stopped me from having children if I had known I was infected in the first place.....no, I don't believe so....hell, I don't know...but if I'd have known of my exposure, I could've told my doctors, been more careful with nursing, who knows what else.
This guy is your boyfriend, not to downplay, but he's not your husband yet. Y'all have to make some decisions, whether it's before he gets out of jail of after. Y'all have to respect each other's health. Get tested. Relationships that are meant to be can withstand this kind of stuff.

first of all apparently u didnt read what i said, i said we didnt know he had it untill about 6 or 7 months ago, he went to jail and they tested him for it and found it. i have stopped using drugs stopped when he went to jail. and thank you marcia2202
Don’t be sure that you have hep C. Don’t share a needle with anybody…..only a clean needle. Every time it’s a risk with old needles. I have 2 genotype: A and B, so every time you share a needle is a risk.

There are a lot of issues you, personally, and then both you and your boyfriend need to address. First of all, you knew the stupidty of sharing needles with him even after knowing he has been infected. Secondly, and more importantly, even without hep c in the mix, the lifestyle you both are living is a terrible enviroment to be thinking of bringing an innocent baby into. If you both really love each other, get some professional help to stop using drugs and figure out if you have and want a relationship that will be stable enough to commit to nurturing children in a safe enviroment in the future. As for the hep c, you should see a doctor and be tested to know if you are infected or not. Hopefully not. I say all of this without any judgement of you and your boyfriend, as I too did a lot of things in my youth without thinking clearly about the consequences to myself and others. I'll be praying for the both of you and hope you can start the New Year with a fresh outlook and comitment to helping each other towards health and life. God bless you.

She only has antibodies, but not the disease. 15% - 35% of infected people fight off the disease without treatment.
Personally, I would never take the risk of possibly infecting my child. If I would have known about having hep c, I would have treated first and then had children.
