I went to see a ENT today and he claims my throat looks good and the blood is probably coming from my gums,so I guess I got to live with it.He also claims my ear (the bad one) is got some fluid again and thats why my hearing aid dont work.I will not take any anti biotic for fear of screwing things up but need to know what other choices I have. besides going through all this pain, I would hate to go through this without being able to hear.I guess I need to ask some ?'s from my trial people. What do you think??????
Spitting up blood doesn't sound good and while it is useful to ask others about their experiences and try some of the proposed remedies I don't think you should self-diagnose in this instance.
I would listen to the trial personnel and seek advice from a specialist doctor. While you are waiting for the appointment you could try the suggestions above to see if they help
If it doesn't then you will have ruled out a few possibilities, if it does then there is nothing lost.
Btw, if it gets worse I really think you should consider going to A&E.
All the best

5 weeks into tx my nasal passages became stuffy and would bleed when I blew my nose; I was heading for a sinus infection and started using a 'saline rinse bottle' available from the chemist. My nurse told me NOT to use saline if my nose was bleeding and my platelets were low as the saline would increase the bleeding.
However, I could hardly breathe (it felt like polyps) and I did use it VERY gently as I believed the pressure in my passages was causing the bleeding; it did relieve my nasal passages and the bleeding stopped (until a few weeks later when I would have to do the whole thing again). It was intermittant and nasal sprays seemed to increase the irritation. I also used a 'nasal gel' that had olive leaf and vitamin E which helped in the evening. Steam also helped and I would put my head over a steam bowl, or notice the improvement immediately after a shower.
This is only pertinant to you if the cause is from your nasal passages. My platelets were sitting at about 107.
I also had the riba cough and concentrated on trying to keep hydrated to help move the phlegm - any exercise really helped me cough up the phlegm, as did laughing!!! I would watch any funny TV program I could, and would actually force myself to laugh during the day (often in the car :-) which would clear my chest (which would get a little tight when the phlegm built up and was my cue to clear it somehow). My nurse said the riba could cause a 'producing cough' as long as I kept an eye on it to make sure the sputum was clear.
Using a non-alcoholic mouth wash (and gargling) helped keep the back of my throat infection free.
It's certainly alarming when we see blood; I hope you can get to the bottom of it and find some relief...
If you live in a cooler climate and use gas heat to heat the house this may be a problem if the furnace is not equipped with humidifier. The dryer air at night while sleeping dries out the nasal passages which in some cases bleeding and could be dripping down the back of your throat. I have to use an external humidifier during the winter because of this very problem. The use of decongestants is to dry out its symptoms. Sounds like you may need to stop the Zyrtec to see if the problem clears up but also keep in mind about the humidifier and gas heat.
