Each person is different. There are many factors that effect how fast the liver disease advances. The only way to know how far your liver disease has progressed is to have a liver biopsy.

If you are interested in finding out, call your doctor and have them refer you to a gastroenterologist or hepatologist as they specialize in the digestive diseases and liver diseases.

Good luck.

What Hector said.

Some people never have any problems, some people have serious problems relatively fast. There's just no way to tell without the proper testing.

As everyone else has said...there is no answer to this as everyone, absolutely everyone, is different.  Two extreme examples:  Me, I've had Hep C my entire life and only discovered it two years ago and my liver was Stage 1.  A young girl I met on a different Hep C site was only 16 when her Hep C was discovered and her liver was already at late stage 3.  There's no rhyme or reason to the stages of Hep C.

As  said above, eveyone is different. Many factors can come into play. Lifestyle choices certainly being one of them.

The proper test (biopsy )  is the only way to know for sure.

I "m not so sure I would agree with that Hepa"s generalization.  I think there is such a wide range of results   that his assertions are way to broad!

you can always disagree
but this comes from one of the top guns in HepC research and they certainly
see a lot more cases than we do.
It is also worth mentioning that more and more people are being dx`d these days
and based on that data it seems that it is advancing faster than originally thought.

I appreciate the fact the Hepa is a top gun in research,I can only go by my own condition and if his assertions were true to form being infected for 34 yr. I would have  a lot more damage than the st.1 I currently have. Also I see on this forum that the degree of damage seems to be all over the map in relation to time frame that I still disagree with his broad brush assertion. All the best. WILL

don't sweat it too much usually a very slow progression. I have had C for 38 yrs plenty of partying and a couple of years ago was grade 1 stage 2. The new and better TX will be out in a yr or so would TX then if you feel like it.

That's a rather reckless statement. And you base this on your experience?

I had HCV for 30 years and I was transplanted. And you know what? That's as predictive of Kath's current histology as is your experience. Neither mean anything except that they demonstrate that people can progress at very different rates.

As stated above - it's an individual thing and there is no way to know without testing. See a hepatologist if one is available and, if not, see a gastroenterologist.

Good luck,
Mike
