razors,toothbrushes, etc.....

Hey Guys,
Count down in three days.  Just a quick question about razors, toothbrushes, and anything else I need to know?  I have read that one can reinfect onself with the items mentioned above?

If I am shaving and don't cut myself...can I still use the disposable (sp?) razor another time/day?

If I have no gum bleeding, can I use the same toothbrush?

When I do my first shot, can I do it with a tequila shot followed with a beer back chaser and not really salt the rim on the glass too much?  LOLOLOLOLOLOLOL....:)

In Him,
Rick

My husband's doctor had 2 patients who were classified as "reinfections".  The doc strongly urged to change toothbrushes weekly during treatment whether or not undetectable.  Also said to change razors more frequently.  And to keep said items away from anyone else's access.  Even if there is no "proof" that one can reinfect themselves, why take the risk? It may cost a little more to do it this way, but well worth the investment.

I am so glad you are doing better, even if it is a little.
Hopefully you will improve day by day, hang in there!

Hi Rick,

  Better I think - thanks.

The braclets are GREAT for the vetigo/dizzy thing.

The protien and green stuff - well I won't be mixing em with water, but they work well with ice cream, fruit, and prosure.

I've been holding everything down - not tried solids yet, but might on wed after my sides from the shot subside...(shot day and they hit right away for the first time - 20th out of 48 - almost halfway there!)

Been doing my "chair exercises" and - while I'm still weak as a kitten - I'll swear my "brain fog" is lifting.  Don't know if there is a connection - hope so - hope it means my blood levels are going up.

I'll get weighed and blood work tues when I see doc, so I'll know soon.  I DO feel better - might be just 'cause I feel like I'm actually DOING something to help my sides now, have been feeling so - ineffective - lately...

Your starting very soon now ....  I'll be pulling for you.  I hope your lucky with the sides and the time (forgive me) "flies" for you.  You certainly have some great ideas on what to do about some of the worst ones!!  Thank you for contributing your knowledge.

P.S. - I've got plastic utensils ready for my solid food experiments...

Hi Wyn. There is no evidence I know of that says one can reinfect themselves with their own toothbrush or razor, but I've seen this topic talked about before, and I've seen interesting theories on it  (all assumptions, opinions, etc, but interesting, nonetheless).  I had bloody gums at one time and so I'm probably overly concerned on this issue. But, if I see blood again when I'm on treatment, (especially if I'm a slow responder), I will throw that toothbrush away immediately and grab a new one each time I brush my teeth.  That is probably HUGE paranoia on my part, but I'm just not going to stick that toothbrush back in my mouth if I see any blood and I am not UND yet. On the other hand, if I get SVR, it'll probably be a different story.

hmmm... when I treat, you might wanna buy stock in Colgate :)

By the way, I had a bad URL experience myself. I copied a shortcut to a video that I liked very much but noticed when I pasted it into an email it had some extra "stuff" so I cut the extra and sent it to someone I really care about thinking it might make her feel better. It turned out that my modification to the link changed the URL and directed her to some demented Taco Bell Dog video. Well needless to say it had the opposite effect that I was hoping for. Bad URL's happen! Don't feel bad :)

Hey!
Thank you very much for the elaboration. Whenever I see the word "vector" I am always going to think of those birds dancing :)

Hope you are having a great day!

I'm still confused.

So is it possible to reinfect onself?

How can that happen if there's no such thing as a 'cure' for hep-c, just a measurable 'clearing' of the virus to the extent it becomes undetectable?

Or have I gotten everything As# backwards?  (as usual)

Hi there friend!!  I hope that this finds you well, and doing better.  Did you buy the liquid protein from Whole foods that I mentioned?  How did it taste?  Hope today was a great one....

I don't bother with the razor as my hair has quit growing.... however with the toothbrush I change it the first of every month. I may pick up that pace to the first and 15th.
No one knows but you are right...you don't want to reinfect yourself.  Better careful then sorry later.
Good luck
Pat

lmao ...ooo I just signed on, and ... well, nevermind.  I'll just say I see some discussion has ensued elsewhere on a hot topic. And get this - a little birdy told me last night (it was a Chickadee, I think)  that I had a BAD URL here.  Can you imagine that - a bad URL?  lol - I can't help myself.  I'm about to die laughing for some reason right now.

Here's the good url  (I hope).

If it's not good, well...then I'm just going to go put some John Prine on and maybe meditate?

"Father forgive for for what we must do,
You forgive us, we'll forgive you,
We'll forgive each other til we both turn blue
Then we'll whistle and go fishin' in a'heaven."

I know you requested chcnme's input but I think it means this;

Any agent (person or animal or microorganism) that carries and transmits a disease.

Is a hypotonoose related to death by hanging?

LOL the toothebrushes and razors is a precaution so it's not spread to other members in your home. Don't let partner or friends use them. I believe Hepatitis is highly contagious because it survives outside of the body a couple weeks. If I remember correctly. I'm clear of the virus and been almost three years and I hide my razors and toothebrushes from others so they don't accidently use them. Although hepatitis can be found undetected after TX you still have antibodies to it. I was 1a and we all know there are different geno types. I used to read about hepatitis alot when I first discovered I had it back in 2002 and from my understanding if you put yourself at risk you aren't safe against the different strains. Although I never heard of anyone having two diiferent strains or genos at once but they say it's possible. I highly doubt you can reinfect yourself. This is just a precaution to avoid to spread it to others. I've been virus clear in three years and I use same toothebrush and razors until it's time to get new ones. That's just show you can not reinfect yourself with something you already have antibodies to. Hope this helps.

You said "it might not be because of the obvious or the studies on toothbrushes and razors being vectors."

Could this lead to a hypotenuse? :)

I know you have been awarded a honorary physician's certificate for the practice of hep-c consultation by Wyntre but I am a layman and am not sure what a vector in this sense is, lol. Could you please elaborate.

Thank you :)

I'm a tequila person too and it was with enormous difficulty that I forced myself to go cold turkey.

You know, of course, that you can't drink anymore?

But I never heard about reinfecting yourself!!!!!!

What's up with that????

LMAO!  Now THAT was funny hahahaha  (on the tequila!)

Best of luck on starting.  If I was on treatment, I'd probably get so obsessed about the possibility of reinfecting myself with my own razors and toothbrushes I'd be investing a lot of money in each, throwing em away everytime I used one.  I think that would be overkill, BUT - it might not be because of the obvious or the studies on toothbrushes and razors being vectors.  (Don't you love that word, vector?)   I really don't know about the vectors on our own toothbrushes, but I have met two people on treatment (from the UK) who snap the heads of their toothbrushes off each week and put them AND their disposable razors in their sharps containers.

LMAO I'm still laughing at that last sentence.  Leave the salt off.  It's bad for you :)
