HEPATITIS C COMMUNITY

recently diagnosed

While in the military about 20+ years ago my husband got sick with hepatitis that he thought was type A but recently found out during routine blood work that he has type C. We are very disappointed and scared as we are in the process of adopting and do not know how this will affect our plans. The biopsy says he has stage 2 periportal fibrosis with grade 2-3 inflammation. It also states that he has rare eosinophils. We have no idea what that means. Not sure about what everything means, what to do, or whether or not we should try to treat. Other than the bad news that continues to trickle in from the doctor, he feels great and has no symptoms. Can anyone suggest a good specialist in the Northern VA or DC area? Any info or encouragement would be appreciated.

hcv is often associated as a hidden disease in that there are no main symptoms unless someone gets really sick.  you are already on the right track in finding the right hepa!  and maybe take treatment into consideration.  many types of insurance including medicaid and medicare may cover costs of treatment, but he will need some determination to physically treat.  this will be a big decision to make and i'm sure you and your husband will make the right one.

i am currently treating at the age of 18 and bypassed the biopsy cause i know i wanted to get rid of the darn virus for my future.  everyone has different priorities and it really depends on what is important to you and your husband to make that choice

good luck

I see a specialist at MCV in Richmond and am currently enrolled in the bocepevir study at the VA- I love my dr. and my nurse! They are awesome.I was diagnosed in 02 and did not start treatment until Nov.08. I was nervous too, being a single mom to a 16,6,& 3yr old (my 6 yr.old has Cerebal Palsy along with other special needs not related to the hep!) I have to get better to be a better Mom and praise God I am responding well to treatment, No trace of virus since week 6. I will fight the fight because I am sick of being sick. I pray for you and your husband in your decision-I hope that you will find the strength in faith & prayer that I have.
